Game StoryDALLAS (Ticker) -- Antoine Walker and the Dallas Mavericks had a happier result in the second go-around against his former team. Walker scored 21 points on 9-of-13 shooting and grabbed nine rebounds as the Mavericks routed the Boston Celtics, 120-104. Dirk Nowitzki added 24 points and rookie Josh Howard chipped in a career-high 19 for Dallas, which improved its league-best home record to 30-5. The Mavericks, who begin a five-game Eastern Conference road trip at New Jersey on Sunday, were coming off a discouraging 111-110 home loss to lowly Atlanta on Wednesday. "This is the way I envisioned us playing, but not for (just) this one game," Dallas coach Don Nelson said. "This really doesn't mean anything if we don't continue it." "We've lost tough games before and came out with a good ballgame afterwards, but we have to be more consistent over a longer period of time," Nowitzki said. "I think now is a good time because we have a tough road trip coming up." Walker, whom the Celtics shockingly traded to the Mavericks just before the season, missed a potential game-winning 3-pointer in a 105-103 setback at Boston on December 17. "The other game was just more emotional," Walker said. "There were a lot of things going on. I was on the go all the time. I had a lot of things to take care of personally. I just know it was focus. ... This time I'm at home, more relaxed, I'm 60 games in. It's kind of old to me now." Dallas, which also received 18 points and 12 rebounds from reserve Antawn Jamison and 13 and 10 assists from Steve Nash, led all the way in this one, taking a 32-14 lead after one quarter and a 59-46 advantage into the break. "We couldn't match up in the first quarter," interim Celtics coach John Carroll said. "We were fighting an uphill battle." "We made a conscious effort to come out of the gates a little quicker," Nowitzki said. "It's always tough if you come out slow in the first quarter and let the other team get their confidence." Boston pulled within 90-83 when Mark Blount split a pair of free throws with 8:51 left, but Dallas embarked on a quick 21-7 run, taking a 111-90 advantage on a 3-pointer by Walker with 4:03 to go. "I thought Walker played his best game for us," Nelson said. Blount collected a season-high 29 points and 10 rebounds for Boston, which had won eight of its prior 10 games. The Celtics (31-39) are in ninth place in the Eastern Conference, one game behind Cleveland and Miami. The Mavericks allowed the Celtics to shoot 51 percent (38-of-75), but they connected on 53 percent (45-of-85), held a 46-27 advantage on the glass and did not have any of their shots blocked. "We can't go out there expecting to outscore the Mavs," said Boston guard Paul Pierce, who scored 17 points. "We had a hard time stopping them, and when we did, we couldn't rebound the ball. You don't get a chance to win when that happens." Both teams committed 17 turnovers, but Dallas scored 26 points off of them while Boston had just 13.
