Game Story

PHOENIX (Ticker) -- On a night when Charles Barkley went into the Ring of Honor, the Phoenix Suns ran circles around the Milwaukee Bucks. The Suns set season highs for points in a half and game and snapped a five-game home losing streak with a 123-111 victory over the Bucks, who have dropped four in a row. Amare Stoudemire scored 27 points and Joe Johnson added 21 to lead six players in double figures for the Suns, who honored Barkley in a 25-minute half-time ceremony attended by NBA legends Bill Russell, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Magic Johnson. The Ring of Honor at America West Arena is the equivalent of having your number retired. Barkley's No. 34 already had been retired by the Philadelphia 76ers, making him the ninth player to have his number retired by two teams. "I have been blessed in my life," said Barkley. "Playing here was the best time playing basketball in my entire life. I was a better player when I played for Philly but I enjoyed it more here." I couldn't be any prouder to join the nine people already in the Ring of Honor and to have Mr. Russell, Mr. Johnson and Mr. Abdul Jabbar here gives me a chance to say thank you for paving the way." Before the ceremony, the Suns sprinted to a 68-56 half-time lead as Stoudemire scored 15 points, matching his total from Friday's sub-par performance in which he made just 6-of-16 shots. Phoenix shot 58 percent (25-of-43) from the field in the first half. "I was kind of hot last night after the game. I didn't do the things I needed to do to help us win," Stoudemire admitted. "I came out aggressive tonight and it carried over the whole game." Shawn Marion scored 19 points and rookie Maciej Lampe added a season-high 17 for the Suns, who eclipsed highs for a half (63) and game (121), both set November 26 vs. Dallas. "We came out aggressive and kept it up," Marion said. "It shows you we have guys who can score; we just need to concentrate on the defense." The Suns have won 16 straight home meetings with the Bucks since February 21, 1987, when they played in Veterans Memorial Coliseum. Joe Smith scored a season-high 19 points for the Bucks, who were an uncharacteristic 0-of-6 from 3-point range as they began a five-game trip that includes visits to the Los Angeles Lakers and Sacramento. Smith's jumper cut the deficit to 74-66 less than three minutes into the third quarter, but the Suns responded with six straight points highlighted by a dunk by Stoudemire. The Bucks never closed to single digits again. "We let them get on a run," Bucks coach Terry Porter said. "For some reason when we were trying to get back, we would miss layups, shots from outside. When we allowed them to get to the open court, they pretty much did what ever they wanted to."
