Game Story

SACRAMENTO, California (Ticker) -- The Sacramento Kings probably figured the slumping Milwaukee Bucks were no threat to their home-court winning streak against the Eastern Conference. Michael Redd scored 26 points and Keith Van Horn had 22 and 11 rebounds as the Bucks snapped a season-high five-game losing streak with an unlikely 112-101 victory over the Kings at Arco Arena. Sacramento had won 29 straight home games against the Eastern Conference since losing to Indiana on March 3, 2002. Milwaukee entered Tuesday having lost its last five road games and was just 10-24 away from home this season. "We were talking about it before the game a little bit, how they've dominated Eastern teams in this building," said Milwaukee coach Terry Porter, a former Sacramento assistant. "I guess the law of averages is going to catch up with them eventually. We just really needed the win, for our confidence. Hopefully, it's something that will continue to build for us." The Bucks, who lost to the Lakers in overtime on Sunday, never trailed as they outplayed the league's best team. They shot 51 percent (43-of-84) from the floor and held a 44-36 edge on the glass, led by Van Horn. "We just played very poorly at the defensive end and they pretty much had their way," Kings coach Rick Adelman said. "Everything was trouble. They beat us off the dribble, they were 1-on-1, they isolated, they posted up and played pick-and-roll. We just could never make any stops." Milwaukee was clinging to an 88-86 edge early in the fourth quarter before scoring 10 of the next 12 points. Van Horn had seven points during the spurt, capping it with a pair of free throws for a 98-88 cushion with 6:13 left. The Bucks made 11-of-12 free throws in the final 3 1/2 minutes, including six in a row from Joe Smith, and held on for just their second win in 10 games. "It was a big win for us," Van Horn said. "We've been on a slide of late and we finally started playing the type of basketball we're capable of playing. Hopefully we can play like this the rest of the year." Smith collected 20 points and nine rebounds as the Bucks (35-35) remained 1 1/2 games behind fourth-place New Orleans in the Eastern Conference playoff race. Mike Bibby scored 27 points and Peja Stojakovic added 21 for the Kings (51-20), who lost for the fourth time in seven games and fell one-half game behind Indiana for the league's best record. Chris Webber fell just shy of a triple-double with 17 points, 10 rebounds and eight assists. But he made only 7-of-23 shots and did not have a rebound in the second half. The Kings, who visit the Lakers on Wednesday, play seven of their next nine games against teams headed to the playoffs. "We have to win games and it doesn't matter who it is," Adelman said. "We've got to win our home games, we've got to keep winning."
