Game StoryNEW YORK (Ticker) -- The New York Knicks learned the hard way that you can no longer make mistakes against the Memphis Grizzlies. Pau Gasol scored 23 points and James Posey added 17 as Memphis rolled to a 111-97 victory over New York, which never recovered from a sloppy first quarter. The Grizzlies were once a laughingstock but have emerged as one of the most talented teams in the NBA. The Knicks entered Wednesday with an 11-4 edge in the all-time series but quickly learned the Grizzlies are a different team from past seasons. New York made just 5-of-13 shots and committed nine turnovers in the first quarter. Meanwhile, Memphis made 11-of-25 shots, 7-of-7 free throws and scored 14 points off the miscues en route to a 31-16 cushion. Posey scored seven points and Bonzi Wells added six in the first period. The Knicks did not get closer than 14 points thereafter. Wells finished with 13 points for Memphis (45-26), which moved one-half game ahead of Dallas for fifth place in the Western Conference. Stephon Marbury collected 23 points and 10 assists as the Knicks (33-39) fell 1 1/2 games behind sixth-place Miami in the East.
