Game StoryPORTLAND, Oregon (Ticker) -- Damon Stoudmaire may have saved the Portland Trail Blazers' season by taking over in the fourth quarter. Stoudamire scored 20 of his season-high 32 points in the final period - including Portland's last 15 - to lead the Trail Blazers over the Los Angeles Clippers, 91-85. Portland (35-35) remained one game behind Denver for the eighth and final playoff spot in the Westen Conference. "I just said to myself I wasn't going to let us lose," Stoudamire said. "If we were going to lose, I was going to go out gunning." "Damon was the offense," Portland coach Maurice Cheeks said. "He's the last remaining guy after we made all those changes and he's taking his captaincy seriously. It's more will than ability; he has a lot of pride about making the playoffs. Stoudamire's 3-pointer with 25 seconds left gave the Trail Blazers an 87-85 lead. Following a timeout, Ruben Patterson stole the ball from Corey Maggette and fed Stoudamire for a breakaway layup that sealed the victory. "Ruben is a great defensive player," Maggette said. "He got the pick and they got the bucket." The Clippers led by 11 points in the third quarter but turned the ball over on six straight possessions as the Trail Blazers embarked on a 12-0 run to take a 62-61 lead. Los Angeles committed 20 turnovers. "We wasted a pretty good effort tonight," Clippers coach Mike Dunleavy said. "We couldn't take care of the basketball and we just gave this game away. Stoudamire made nine of his last 12 shots, finishing 11-of-22 overall and 6-of-10 from the arc. The Trail Blazers have won nine straight games from the Clippers at the Rose Garden. "Damon saved us, plain and simple," Portland forward Shareef Abdur-Rahim said. "He saved the day, this would have been a devastating loss." Maggette scored 22 points and Eddie House added 21 to lead Los Angeles, which has lost five straight games and nine of 10. Quentin Richardson sat out the contest with back spasms. "We just didn't play smart towards the end," Maggette said. "Since I'm the captain, I'm going to take a big part of that and take responsibility for the game."
