Game Story

CHICAGO (Ticker) -- Joe Smith scored a season-high 23 points to lead four Bucks with at least 20 as Milwaukee won for just the third time in 12 games, knocking off the Chicago Bulls, 115-105. The Bucks (36-36) snapped a five-game losing streak at the United Center and moved within one-half game of New Orleans for fourth place in the Eastern Conference. "I thought we had some good performances tonight," Milwaukee coach Terry Porter said. "We came out and moved the ball offensively. Joe played well, but we also got a lot from others off our bench." Desmond Mason scored 22 points and fellow reserve Damon Jones added 21 for Milwaukee, which finished their road trip at 2-3. "We played energetic basketball," Mason said. "We had guys that came off the bench and played extremely well, extremely hard. We need to keep the intensity and momentum." Smith scored 11 points in the first quarter as the Bucks jumped to a 15-point lead and held a 34-24 advantage after one period. Milwaukee maintained a double-digit lead virtually throughout and opened a 17-point advantage midway through the third quarter. "They pretty much from beginning to end dominated us," Chicago coach Scott Skiles said. "Our defense was very poor. For most of the game we were very slow and had no chance of guarding some of their guys, so we fouled them. It is hard to get a rhythm to the game when they are constantly parading to the line." The Bucks made 41-of-49 free throws and Smith was 10-of-10. Bucks forward Keith Van Horn left the game with two minutes remaining in the first quarter after spraining his left ankle and did not return. Chicago's Jannero Pargo, playing with his third team of the season, set career highs with 34 points and nine assists. The 6-1 guard also tied a franchise record held by Michael Jordan by making seven 3-pointers. "I definitely had it going," Pargo said. "Thirty-four is not my career high in life; I had more in college. But it's hard to feel like Mike. I would definitely rather have the victory." Marcus Fizer scored a season-high 24 points for Chicago, which has lost 10 of 12. "We just didn't come to play tonight," Fizer said. "Everybody is making excuses about what the GM and coach need to do. We are one of the most underachieving teams in the league and it's not John (general manager John Paxson) or Scott's fault."
