Game Story

ATLANTA (Ticker) -- After getting contributions from their youngsters, the Philadelphia 76ers watched their veterans step up when it counted most. Aaron McKie scored 12 points in the fourth quarter and Eric Snow had two big baskets and a pair of steals in overtime as the 76ers kept alive their slim playoff hopes with a 103-100 victory over the Atlanta Hawks. The 76ers also received huge games from Samuel Dalembert and rookie Willie Green. Dalembert collected 18 points, 18 rebounds and five blocks before fouling out in overtime while Green scored a career-high 26 points. "It's up to us to show these guys the leadership on the floor and no matter the circumstances, we're going to play hard," McKie said. But after McKie carried the Sixers in the fourth quarter, the steady Snow made all the key plays in overtime. Snow's driving layup with 37 seconds left provided a 101-98 lead and, after Travis Hansen made two free throws for the Hawks, Snow hit a jumper over Bob Sura with 8.6 seconds remaining. Sura missed a 3-pointer that barely grazed the front rim as time expired for the Hawks, who fell to 0-6 in overtime. Kenny Thomas also netted 18 points for Philadelphia (33-45), which is 2 1/2 games behind Boston for the Eastern Conference's final playoff berth with four games left. The Sixers also stopped a five-game road losing streak. "From what I've read, some people in Boston don't want to make the playoffs," Snow said. "We did help; hopefully they'll give us some." "We made mistakes but we didn't give up," Sixers coach Chris Ford said. "We kept coming back. At times, it was a comedy of errors." Stephen Jackson and Chris Crawford each scored 26 points for the Hawks, who battled back from a 10-point halftime deficit to take a 71-64 lead with 9:35 remaining in the fourth quarter on Hansen's dunk. But the Sixers responded with a 10-4 run, capped by Dalembert's dunk to pull within 75-73 with 7:53 to go. Dalembert had six dunks and went 9-of-11 from the field. McKie made consecutive jumpers, his second with 51 seconds left to give the Sixers a 91-87 lead. But the Hawks were able to get the game to overtime, when Sura made two foul shots with a 1.7 seconds to go, tying to the contest at 92-92. "I wish we could win an overtime game," Hawks coach Terry Stotts. "To get it into overtime took some execution and hard work." Green made three 3-pointers and scored 15 points in the first half, helping the Sixers open a 45-35 lead.
