Game Story

MILWAUKEE (Ticker) -- Michael Redd and the Milwaukee Bucks are busy fine-tuning for the playoffs while the Washington Wizards continue to discover new ways to lose games. Redd scored 35 points and Desmond Mason added a season-high 27 to rally the Bucks to a 116-107 victory over the Wizards, their fourth straight win. Milwaukee (41-38) remained 1 1/2 games ahead of Miami for fourth place in the Eastern Conference. "I'm really proud of the team tonight," Milwaukee coach Terry Porter said. "They just showed no quit whatsoever. We did a great job in the second half, it was a great win." "We played like true champions, true warriors," Redd said. "We dug it out. Right now we're playing well." The Wizards led by as many as 17 points in the second quarter and took a 60-48 lead into the half. The game was tied, 100-100, with 3:25 remaining, when Mason drove the lane and was fouled by Etan Thomas. Gilbert Arenas then inexplicably swatted Mason's shot off the backboard for a goaltending call. Washington forward Kwame Brown did not realize the basket counted and Mason was only shooting one foul shot. As Brown wiped his brow and looked downward, Toni Kukoc grabbed the miss and laid it in for a 104-100 lead. Milwaukee never relinquished the lead thereafter. "They are a playoff team and they just took it up another level," Washington coach Eddie Jordan said. "(Redd and Mason) did it to us tonight." Milwaukee used a 22-9 run over the last six minutes of the third quarter to take an 83-81 lead into the final period. Kukoc scored eight of his 22 points in the surge. "We stepped up in the second half and came out more aggressive on both ends of the floor," Mason said. "We got some easy baskets in transition, guys were making the extra pass. We showed a lot of heart, our guys were tired." "Toni puts you in a bind," Jordan said. "If you have a small on him, he posts up. If you have a big, he'll take you to the perimenter. You have to pick your poison." Larry Hughes scored 19 points to lead seven players in double figures for Washington. Bucks forward Keith Van Horn was in uniform but did not play due to nagging ankle and foot injuries.
