Game StoryOAKLAND, California (Ticker) -- Kevin Garnett and the Minnesota Timberwolves used a huge dose of defense to move closer to the best record in the Western Conference. Garnett collected 29 points and 15 rebounds as the Timberwolves posted their seventh straight win, a 92-74 victory over the Golden State Warriors. Garnett made his first six shots and notched his 70th double-double by the end of the third quarter. He finished 12-of-15 from the floor and helped limit Adonal Foyle to four second-half points. "They should send the trophy right now," Timberwolves coach Flip Saunders said. "What he's done this year, not to take anything away from some of the other guys, like Jermaine O'Neal, but just how he's played, what he's done, he's had a tremendous year." "He's a lock," Minnesota forward Wally Szczerbiak said. "I don't think anyone's playing as well as him. He just finds a way to will us to victory every night. It was a total team effort, he did a great job, shot the (heck) out of the ball after a back-to-back and that's pretty impressive." Golden State used a strong first half from Foyle for a 50-49 lead at the break. The Timberwolves stiffened, allowing the Warriors to shoot just 31 percent (10-of-32) from the field after halftime. "We were a lot more aggressive and shared the ball a lot better in the second half and kept it really simple," Garnett said. "We just ran a couple of plays and then tried to slow them down on getting rebounds because they were killing us so overall we just made some adjustments." Minnesota (56-24) can clinch the top seed in the West by winning its final two games, a home contest with Utah and its regular-season finale at Memphis. "Every game we play right now is going to be an important game so we got to continue to understand that nothing is going to be easy," said Minnesota guard Sam Cassell, who had 19 points and seven assists. "Everything is going to be a war out there so we came to battle and we did what we had to do today." The Timberwolves have held each of their last seven opponents under 90 points. Garnett's jumper with 2:11 remaining capped a 14-0 tear for a 90-72 advantage as Golden State went cold. "It's very much about going out as a team and trying to do what you can for the team and tonight I just seemed to be in the right place at the right time and I thought we could pull it out at the end but we didn't," said Foyle, who tied his career high with 20 points. Minnesota converted 20 turnovers into 22 points.
