Game Story

ATLANTA (Ticker) -- Bob Sura became the first player in franchise history to record consecutive triple-doubles as the Atlanta Hawks prevented the Boston Celtics from clinching a playoff spot with a 110-99 victory. Sura, who was forced to the locker room bleeding from the mouth early in the fourth quarter, collected 15 points, 10 rebounds and 11 assists. He reached the milestone when he pulled down his 10th rebound with 10:23 remaining. "I've been close a few times in my career and to get them back-to-back feels pretty good," said Sura, who joined New Jersey's Jason Kidd and Dallas' Antoine Walker as the only players with consecutive triple-doubles this season. "I'm excited about the way I've been playing. I feel fortunate for the opportunity here (in Atlanta) to get out there and play." With just over nine minutes to play, Sura was accidentally hit in the mouth, a blow that required stitches to his lip. He returned to the bench but with the Hawks holding a comfortable lead, did not re-enter the game. "Bob Sura has been instrumental in how we've been playing," Hawks guard Jason Terry said. "He has tremendous heart and he's a fierce competitor. He's the type of guy you want to see when you're going to war (on the court)." When Sura walked back on the court with 2:51 to go, he received a standing ovation from the crowd. "That gave me some chills out there," Sura said. "I go out there and lay it on the line every night for my team and for the fans and to get that kind of respect, I appreciate that." Steven Jackson scored 29 points and Chris Crawford added 23 for the Hawks, who led virtually the entire game and by as many as 19 points in the fourth period. With a chance to clinch a playoff spot, the Celtics (35-45) came out flat, played little defense and suffered their fourth straight defeat, all on the road. Boston allowed 63 points in the first half, trailing by 17 at intermission. "This was a trip that maybe wore us out and maybe we're not mature enough to handle it," Boston coach John Carroll said. The result kept alive the hopes of the Philadelphia 76ers (33-46), who were pushed to the brink of elimination following Friday's home setback to Washington. Boston leads Philadelphia by 1 1/2 games and appears to have a more favorable closing schedule with home contests against Miami and Atlanta. The 76ers visit New Jersey on Sunday, then host Indiana and visit Orlando. "I'm not even worried about that," Carroll said. "I'm so upset how we played tonight. You can make the playoffs all you want, but you'll be embarrassed on national TV if you play like that." The Celtics took their last lead, 14-12, on Ricky Davis' 3-pointer with 6:48 left in the first quarter. Davis led Boston with 24 points. Paul Pierce scored 19 points for the Celtics but was a non-factor in the second half. He was held scoreless in the fourth quarter, when he took only one shot. "We played like a tired team," Pierce added. "We need to get back to practice and regroup. Maybe we need some time away from each other tomorrow."
