Game StoryMILWAUKEE (Ticker) -- The "Big Cat" has helped the New Orleans Hornets claw their way back into the race for home-court advantage in the first round of the playoffs. Jamaal Magloire scored 13 of his 26 points in the fourth quarter as the Hornets pulled away for a pivotal 92-87 victory over the Milwaukee Bucks, tightening the Eastern Conference postseason picture. Known as the "Big Cat," Magloire was an All-Star for the first time this season. With top scorers Baron Davis and Jamal Mashburn sidelined with injuries, he has become the focal point of the Hornets' offense. Magloire had 23 points and 17 rebounds in Friday's home win over Boston and came up with another big performance against Milwaukee. Unstoppable in the low post, he made 7-of-11 shots and 12-of-16 free throws, adding 13 rebounds. "I think the key to tonight's game was our willingness to compete for 48 minutes and we played with a sense of urgency," Magloire said. "That is what was most important." "We just didn't have anyone to match up with him tonight," Bucks coach Terry Porter said. New Orleans (40-40) climbed into a tie with Miami for fifth place in the East, one game behind Milwaukee (41-39). The fourth-place team gets home-court advantage in the first round of the playoffs, beginning next weekend. The Hornets hold the tiebreaker over the Bucks, who hold the tiebreaker over the Heat, who hold the tiebreaker over the Hornets. "I still believe we have a shot at getting home-court advantage and the only way to give ourselves that chance is to win out the rest of our games for the season," Magloire said. Even if the Hornets beat New York at home on Monday and Washington on the road Wednesday, they cannot finish higher than fifth if the Bucks defeat either Cleveland on the road Monday or Toronto at home Wednesday. "We blew a golden opportunity tonight," Porter said. "We had a team coming in here on a back-to-back night, and I guess they felt the urgency more than we did, which is disappointing." Back-to-back dunks by Magloire gave New Orleans the lead for good at 84-81 with 3:50 to go. On the next possession, P.J. Brown made a jumper to push the lead to five points. All three hoops were set up by penetration by guard Shammond Williams, who filled in at point guard for Davis and Darrell Armstrong (ankle) and collected 14 points and 11 assists. "I knew I was going to get a lot of time, so I just did the things I am capable of doing," said Williams, who played 39 minutes. "People said I couldn't create, couldn't control a basketball game. Well, I guess I can." "When Shammond came in the game and he was able to break down the defense, it made baskets for me a lot easier than it was in the first half, when I had to pound and those guys were banging me back," Magloire said. After a drive by Michael Redd, who scored 27 points, was answered by free throws from Magloire and Brown. A jumper by Damon Jones gave the Bucks a chance to tie, but Keith Van Horn missed a 3-pointer with 39 seconds to go. After Williams was called for a charge, the Bucks could not get the ball inbounds with 20 seconds left. Brown, who had 19 points and 13 boards, sealed it with two foul shots. In a game that featured 23 lead changes and 11 ties, David Wesley scored 11 points for the Hornets. Joe Smith had 20 points and 11 boards for the Bucks. "We just didn't get it done," Redd said. "Give them credit; they came in here and played with a lot more energy than we did."
