Game Story

OAKLAND, California (Ticker) -- A five-year wait for the 
Golden State Warriors finally ended.

Jason Richardson scored 24 points and Speedy Claxton added 19 as
the Warriors ended a 20-game losing streak against the Dallas
Mavericks by holding on for a 108-107 victory.

Dallas (50-30) remained tied with Memphis for fifth place in the
Western Conference standings. The Mavericks host the Grizzlies
on Tuesday.

"We've just got to finish out this two games strong and
obviously if we can beat Memphis on Tuesday we can put ourselves
back in position and it's going to come down to the last game
of the season and it's unfortunate; we controlled the game for 3
1/2 quarters and we lose this one," Dallas forward Antoine
Walker said.

Golden State recorded its first victory over Dallas since a
91-90 triumph on April 10, 1999, surviving a late miss by the
Mavericks in that one. History repeated itself on Sunday.

"Well if you coach long enough, everything is going to happen to
you," Mavericks coach Don Nelson said. "Tonight that caught us
and they won a one-pointer on us and it's been a lot of games in
a row here.  So anyways, congratulations to the Warriors, I
thought they played well in the second half and we had our
opportunities and didn't capitalize on them."

The Mavericks had a final possession to win, but Steve Nash
missed a contested layup with 16 seconds remaining. Former
Warrior Antawn Jamison saved the ball to Dirk Nowitzki, who
drove and had a pass batted away.

Dallas came up with the loose ball and Nowitzki set up for an
isolation with eight seconds left. His drive was stymied and he
was forced to kick the ball out to Walker, who missed a
3-pointer with one second to go. Golden State's Brian Cardinal
grabbed the rebound and threw it into the air.

"It felt great," Walker said.  "I thought it was in.  Dirk
slipped there in that situation and he (Cardinal) came at me.  I
pump-faked him. I got a clean look, it just went off the back
rim. It's tough when it comes down to that situation."

"We got the ball in the hands of who we wanted.  I thought we
got two good looks and we didn't get them down," Nelson said.

The bench was a big factor for Golden State, outscoring Dallas'
reserves, 60-25. Cardinal scored 17 points and Troy Murphy added
16.

"We've played our 80th game together and we were able to grind
this one out," Cardinal said. "We have had a lot key games where
it came down to a key bucket or a rebound or a play and we
weren't able to make it but tonight, I think we were able to do
that only because we've had so many opportunities that we
weren't able to follow through on and I think we learned from
those past experiences."

Nowitzki collected 29 points and 13 rebounds for Dallas while
rookie Marquis Daniels chipped in 21 points.  The Mavericks led
the entire way until Cliff Robinson's pull-up jumper with 3:46
left gave Golden State a 101-99 lead.
