Game StoryNEW ORLEANS (Ticker) -- The New York Knicks kept alive their hopes of moving up in the Eastern Conference by getting another strong performance from their youthful bench. Moochie Norris scored a season-high 21 points, including a 3-pointer with 3:13 remaining that helped the Knicks rally for a 101-97 triumph over the New Orleans Hornets. New York (39-42) has won three straight and can catch New Orleans (40-41) for the sixth seed in the East with a home win against Cleveland on Wednesday, coupled with a Hornets' loss at Washington. "Our guys off the bench were terrific again," New York coach Lenny Wilkens said. "I love the way our guys stepped up in the fourth quarter." The Knicks' bench scored 61 points, bringing its total for the last two games to 115. New Orleans led 81-71 through three quarters and 92-87 with 5:14 remaining after Stacey Augmon completed a three-point play. New York rookie Mike Sweetney answered with a three-point play before Norris took over. The reserve guard scored the Knicks' next seven points, all on assists from Frank Williams, for a 97-93 cushion with 1:29 left. Williams found Norris alone in the right corner for the go-ahead 3-pointer. "I couldn't believe I was that wide open," Norris said. "I caught it and I heard (my teammates) behind me, screaming. It almost threw me off. That's why I took my time because I knew nobody was running out at me." The bench accounted for all of the Knicks' fourth-quarter points. In the final five minutes, New York outscored New Orleans, 14-5, and limited the Hornets to 1-of-12 shooting. David Wesley nailed a 3-pointer with 21 seconds left to get the Hornets within 97-96, but New York made 4-of-4 free throws to clinch its 13th win in 20 games. Wesley missed another 3-pointer from the left corner with 15 seconds remaining and the Hornets trailing, 99-96. Sweetney scored a career-high 16 points for the Knicks, who rested Stephon Marbury after the first quarter and most of their starters throughout the game. Norris and Sweetney each had 11 points in the fourth quarter, going a combined 10-of-13 from the field. "(The reserves) played great tonight," Marbury said. "Going into the playoffs, we're going to need them. We're going to need everyone." Wesley had 23 points and Jamaal Magloire added 21 and 10 rebounds for the Hornets, who can finish no higher than fifth in the East. To get there, they'll need a victory over the Wizards and losses by Milwaukee and Miami. All-Star guard Baron Davis returned to the New Orleans lineup after missing nine games with a sprained left ankle. He had 14 points in 27 minutes but appeared to run out of gas. "I'll be ready for the playoffs," Davis said. "Whoever we play, we've just got to get right and get healthy. We can beat anybody. It'll definitely be fun. The harder, the better."
