Game StoryPORTLAND, Oregon (Ticker) -- The Portland Trail Blazers used a team effort to halt the Los Angeles Clippers' momentum. Shareef Abdur-Rahim scored 22 points and Zach Randolph recorded his second double-double in as many games as the Trail Blazers posted a 94-81 victory over the Clippers. Portland raced to a 29-20 lead after one quarter and held Los Angeles to just 33 second-half points in its second straight solid defensive effort. The Trail Blazers, who defeated Golden State on Wednesday, 78-75, have won 11 straight and 23 of their last 24 home games vs. the Clippers. "That game was another defensive effort, just like those in the preseason and the opener the other night," Portland coach Maurice Cheeks said. "The reason why we're going to win games is because of our defense." Abdur-Rahim chipped in eight rebounds and a career-high five steals while Randolph had 14 points and 14 rebounds. "Everybody stepped it up tonight," Randolph said. "We have a good team here. We're just playing hard as a team and sharing the ball." Theo Ratliff controlled the defensive end and tied a team record with nine blocked shots, including five in the first quarter. His block of a shot by point guard Marko Jaric led to an easy basket for Abdur-Rahim, staking Portland to its largest lead, 69-54, midway through the third quarter. "I just tried to disrupt them from getting to the basket," said Ratliff, who matched his career high for blocks. "Those athletic guys come in and sometimes double-pump. That's when I know I got them." Ratliff also tied Blazers' all-time greats Bill Walton and Mychal Thompson for the franchise record in blocked shots, last accomplished by Thompson in 1981. Chris Wilcox scored a career-high 27 points for Los Angeles but got little help. Corey Maggette was just 5-for-20 from the field and Bobby Simmons, who had a career-high 30 in the Clippers' season-opening win over the Seattle SuperSonics, was held to just four. "It was a great game for me, but it was bad that we didn't get the win though," Wilcox said. "Things just went my way tonight, we executed well early, but it's too bad we didn't get the win. Hopefully, the next time we will." Los Angeles recorded a 30-point win vs. the Sonics on Wednesday, setting a franchise record for margin of victory in a season opener. Clippers coach Mike Dunleavy was not pleased with his team's effort. "I thought our defense was horrific," Dunleavy said. "We got behind, guys weren't hitting from the outside and we gave them a lot of fast breaks. "But it's one game and we have to be ready tomorrow night (at Golden State)."
