Game StoryMINNEAPOLIS (Ticker) -- Kevin Garnett made sure that the New Orleans Hornets didn't get their first conference win at the expense of the Minnesota Timberwolves. Garnett scored 29 points, including six in the final 90 seconds, as the Timberwolves posted a 99-92 triumph over the Hornets. New Orleans is in its first season in the Western Conference after the NBA realigned its divisions. The Hornets fell to 0-3 for the first time in 10 years. "We're a little anxious to get a win, but I don't see anybody thinking that they gotta do it all themselves," guard David Wesley said. "We're not losing patience yet." Coach Byron Scott doesn't feel the same way. "(It's) lack of intensity, period," he said. "You come into the game and it's really like you don't want to be here. If that's the case, they should go to (general manager) Allan Bristow and tell him they don't want to be here. I don't need guys who don't play with that intensity and with that purpose of just going out there and playing with some passion." Minnesota held an 86-83 lead when Garnett, the reigning NBA MVP, sank a turnaround jumper with 1:45 remaining. Seconds later, he stole an errant pass by Baron Davis and hit Latrell Sprewell with an outlet pass that led to a dunk. On the next possession, Sprewell returned the favor, feeding Garnett for a dunk with one minute left. Garnett, who also grabbed 15 rebounds, finished it off by sinking a pair of free throws to push the advantage to 94-87 with just 34 seconds remaining. "Once we get the ball into KG (Garnett), you know they have to honor his ability to score, and everybody is going to take wide open shots," guard Troy Hudson said. "If we run our offense, we're tough to beat." "A win is a win," Garnett said. "I'm always happy with a W. I don't care how we get it as long as we get it, but a win is always good." New Orleans held a 27-23 lead after one quarter, but Minnesota opened the second period with a 22-7 run led by Sam Cassell, who scored 13 of his 15 points in the quarter. "I'm very disappointed with our how our second unit played in the first half," Scott added. "I let it be known that I will play only seven or eight guys until they prove that they can play with some aggressiveness and passion. They didn't play in the second half." The Timberwolves took a 54-40 lead into halftime but the Hornets rallied in the third quarter. Guards Baron Davis and David Wesley, who scored 21 points apiece, combined for 16 points in the team's 27-10 spurt in the period. "We knew they were going to make a run," Garnett said. "The hardest thing to do is keep a lead on a good team. They picked up the intensity, and got some calls to go their way. We regained control by staying aggressive. Against a good team, you gotta keep the lead and not let them get back in the game."
