Game StoryMEMPHIS, Tennessee (Ticker) -- Much to the pleasure of the Memphis Grizzlies, the Los Angeles Lakers continued their struggles in the state of Tennessee. Pau Gasol scored 22 points and Shane Battier added 18 - both season highs - as the Grizzlies recorded their first win of the season with a 110-87 rout of the Lakers. Los Angeles absorbed its third straight loss at Memphis, including a pair by 23 points apiece. Its last road win against the Grizzlies was a 102-101 victory on April 4, 2003. "You had a team that was searching for its first win, and we come in here and don't play a smart defensive game," Lakers forward Lamar Odom said. "You've got guys playing hard, but sometimes your aggression gets taken away by foul calls." Memphis (1-4) had lost 12 straight games dating to last season - its last four regular-season games, a first-round playoff sweep at the hands of San Antonio and its first four this season. "The ball movement tonight was the best it has been this year," Grizzlies coach Hubie Brown said. "We had 26 assists and we had five guys in double figures. It's nice to see five guys in double figures again." Memphis, which ranked seventh in the league last season with 96.7 points per game, had started the season in a slump, cracking 90 points just once. With the offensive breakout, the Grizzlies improved to 26-3 when surpassing 100 points since the start of last season. Jason Williams, who scored nine straight points during a 22-8 run in the second quarter, finished with 17 and six assists for Memphis, which outscored the Lakers on the fast break, 27-12. "The key to the game tonight was our transition," Brown said. "Jason and Earl (backup point guard Earl Watson) really pushed the ball and kept the pressure on them tonight. On the initial break, we were 13 for 17 (on opportunities). When you get 13 for 17 on the initial break, it lets off a lot of pressure." Mike Miller scored 13 points and Dahntay Jones chipped in 12 for the Grizzlies, who led by as many as 32 points. Kobe Bryant sat most of the fourth quarter with a left foot injury and scored a season-low 20 points on 4-of-19 shooting for the Lakers, who shot just 37 percent (28-of-76) from the field. "It's something that's been ongoing," said Bryant about his foot. "I have to make sure to try and jump on it early so it doesn't bother me." Odom and Chris Mihm scored 14 points apiece for Los Angeles, which dropped to 0-3 when opponents reach 100 points. "I'm not real happy with our response on defense," Lakers coach Rudy Tomjanovich said. "Twenty-four free throws in the first half. ... It just seemed like in a six-minute span, they outscored us by 17 points."
