Game StoryMILWAUKEE (Ticker) -- The Milwaukee Bucks led the Eastern Conference in scoring last season. They have used defense to fuel their first two wins this season. Desmond Mason and Michael Redd scored 11 points each in the fourth quarter and Maurice Williams made some big plays down the stretch as the Bucks rallied for a 102-100 victory over the Charlotte Bobcats. With just under a minute left, Mason sank two free throws after securing an offensive rebound to give the Bucks a 100-98 lead - their first since 16-15 midway through the first quarter. Charlotte had a chance to win as Jason Hart drove the lane and kicked out to Steve Smith for an open 3-pointer that was long. Mason, who scored all of his points in the final period from the line, grabbed the rebound and was fouled with three-tenths of a second left, sinking 1-of-2 free throws. "We got the look we wanted," Charlotte coach Bernie Bickerstaff said. "We had the right guy taking the shot. It just didn't go down." "I thought I got my feet set and did everything right," Smith said. "If I would have hit it, we would have won. It felt good. It felt real good. Jason Hart made a great pass and I knew guys would be jumping at it. Mo Williams was too small to get it; I just missed it." Mason scored 31 points, Redd added 26 and Keith Van Horn 23 for the Bucks, who have won their first two home games for the first time since the 2001-02 season. "The offense was going great for us; it was all about defense in the second half," said Mason, who alone outscored Charlotte's bench by five points. "We came out and made some adjustments, got more aggressive on the defensive end, made plays down the stretch and gutted out a tough win." Redd helped erase an 80-74 deficit after three periods with some big jump shots. Williams converted four free throws down the stretch and blocked a shot by Gerald Wallace with the game tied at 98-98 with just over one minute remaining. "I was just trying to make plays in the fourth quarter," Williams said. "(In the first half, the Bobcats) were just making shots. But we can put points on the board also. No one on this team had a doubt. We knew we could come back and get a win." Milwaukee, which had allowed a combined 37 points in the fourth quarter in its first two games, held Charlotte to two baskets in 10 shots over the final 5:52 and 20 points in the fourth quarter. "We just had to keep fighting and gutting it out and we did, we made some plays down the stretch," Bucks coach Terry Porter said. "(The Bobcats) play extremely hard; they've got some good shooters. Hart scored 19 points and added a career-high 12 assists for the Bobcats, who were playing their first road game and blew a 13-point lead. It was Hart's second double-double this season. "I was just trying to be aggressive, play hard defensively and trying to get my teammates involved," said Hart, originally drafted by the Bucks in the second round in 2000. "If we could have had another rebound go our way, we would have won the game." Eddie House scored all 15 of his points in the first half and Hart added 10 to give Charlotte a 62-54 lead. Bickerstaff's team shot 21 free throws to 43 for the Bucks. "They had 43 good looks," said Bickerstaff, whose team has led after three quarters in all three games this season but is just 1-2. "I guess we've got to clean up our act defensively if we're creating that many free throws. When there's a lot of free throws being shot, it kills the momentum."
