Game Story

MILWAUKEE (Ticker) -- After getting off to a slow start, Michael Redd provided a fantastic finish. Redd scored a season-high 30 points, including a pair of clutch jumpers in the final 90 seconds that lifted the Milwaukee Bucks to a 94-91 victory over the winless New Orleans Hornets. Redd made 11-of-22 shots, including 6-of-8 3-pointers, as he overcame a poor start that saw him miss his first six shots. With the game tied down the stretch, the Bucks turned to their All-Star. "That's what happens with pure shooters. It only takes one shot to get them rolling," Bucks coach Terry Porter said. From the left baseline, Redd sank a 16-footer that gave Milwaukee the lead for good at 86-84 with 1:14 to play. After New Orleans missed a pair of shots, Redd drilled a 20-footer from the right wing for a four-point bulge with 28 seconds left. Both shots came with defenders draped all over Redd. "I haven't seen an open shot in about three years, so I've practiced shots like that thousands of times," Redd said. The Bucks held on as they made 6-of-6 free throws in the final 17 seconds, surviving a surge by Darrell Armstrong and a potential tying 3-pointer by David Wesley just before the horn. "I felt like it was going in," said Wesley, who had 12 points and 10 assists. "I don't want to sit here and talk about good effort. We need wins and that is the bottom line." Keith Van Horn and Desmond Mason scored 17 points each for Milwaukee, which blew a 15-point third-quarter lead but won its third straight game, all at home. Armstrong scored 21 points for the Hornets (0-6), who dropped to 0-3 in games decided by three points or less. "Guys are playing hard and playing together on both ends of the floor," Armstrong said. "When you play like this, it helps you down the line." Redd scored 12 points in the second quarter as Milwaukee opened a 51-40 halftime lead. He and Van Horn made consecutive 3-pointers early in the third quarter to open the advantage to 57-42. Armstrong capped a 12-0 burst with a 3-pointer that cut the deficit to 71-70 early in the final period. Another 3-pointer by Alex Garcia gave New Orleans a 79-75 lead with 6:19 to go. Milwaukee, which missed 10 of its first 11 shots of the fourth quarter, got a spark from guard Maurice Williams, who hit consecutive jumpers for an 82-81 lead with 2:44 left. "He's been doing a great job making decisions and came up with a couple of big shots down the stretch for us," Porter said.
