Game Story

CLEVELAND (Ticker) -- LeBron James and Jeff McInnis kept the Cleveland Cavaliers rolling. James scored 25 points and McInnis added a season-high 24 as the Cavaliers pulled away in the second half to post 100-84 victory over the Charlotte Bobcats. James and McInnis scored 27 points in the first half, but the duo did not get much support from their teammates as the Cavaliers clung to a 48-47 lead at the break. Cavs forward Drew Gooden, who recorded his fourth double-double of the season with 13 points and 10 rebounds, admitted that Cleveland took Charlotte lightly after defeating the Bobcats, 106-89, Wednesday in the opener of a home-and-away series. "Yeah, we did," Gooden said. "But you have to give Charlotte credit because they fought. It's hard to beat a team back-to-back like that." The Cavs woke up in the third quarter, outscoring the Bobcats, 32-15. Zydrunas Ilgauskas combined with Gooden to score 15 points in the period as the Cavaliers opened an 80-62 advantage. Cleveland scored the final 11 points of the period, and sealed its sixth consecutive win by scoring the first five points in the fourth. The Cavs held the Bobcats to just 32 percent (13-of-41) shooting in the second half and 37 percent (31-of-85) overall. "The key was our defense," McInnis said. "That allowed us to go out and run, and get open shots. When we're playing like that, it makes it easier to win the game." "Hopefully we can keep this thing rolling," Cavs coach Paul Silas said. "When we defend well, we are doing pretty good. Our defense is what really picks up and gives us an edge." McInnis is averaging 18.2 points over the Cavaliers' winning streak. Earlier in the week, McInnis was notified that he was left off the All-Star ballot, while back-up point guard Eric Snow was included. "I don't think he liked that too much," James said. "So he's taking it out on the opponents, and I'm loving it." Gerald Wallace scored 15 points for Charlotte, which has lost six straight. "It's all mental," Bobcats coach Bernie Bickerstaff said. "It's been a problem for us to execute our offense. It's just time after time, we have mental letdowns, and I think that's one of the things that happened tonight. We had a mental letdown, teams make their run, then we're fighting the rest of the game to try to get back in it." Rookie Emeka Okafor recorded 10 of his 13 points in the first quarter to help the Bobcats take a 28-23 lead after 12 minutes.
