Game Story

SEATTLE (Ticker) -- Vladimir Radmanovic helped the Seattle SuperSonics survive an off night from Ray Allen. Radmanovic had 20 points and 10 rebounds off the bench and Rashard Lewis also scored 20 points as the SuperSonics avenged a loss earlier in the week to the Portland Trail Blazers, 99-89. Allen and Lewis, who entered the contest averaging 45.9 points per game, combined to score just 13 in the first half. But Radmanovic picked up the slack with 17 points and eight rebounds in the first 24 minutes as the Sonics took a 52-50 lead into the break. "I thought he played great," said Seattle coach Nate McMillan, who notched his 175th career victory. "I thought he played a solid game. He had a double-double, five steals, three assists. That is a wonderful performance." "It doesn't matter who steps up as long as we win a game," Radmanovic said. "There are so many guys who can play and all we have to do is find the guy who is hot that night. Tonight, it was me. Guys were giving me the ball and I was making shots." Lewis took over in the third period, scoring eight points in a 12-4 run that opened the second half and made it 64-54 with 8:53 remaining. He capped the spurt with a basket off a steal by Luke Ridnour. The Trail Blazers turned it over 19 times, leading to 21 points. They scored just seven points on 12 turnovers by the Sonics. Seattle's leading scorer at 24.6 points, Allen was held to just eight through three quarters and finished with a season-low 14 on 5-of-15 shooting. "The game started off where my shots weren't falling and (Radmanovic's) were, so you kind of have to mold yourself around the game," Allen said. "You have to force that action a little bit and for me, I kind of have to pick my spots after that. I don't look at it as just scoring. I think there are a lot of other things I can do to help out." Despite Allen's poor performance, Portland coach Maurice Cheeks said that Portland still had to respect the All-Star's outside shooting. "Ray Allen strung us out a lot," he said. "Even though Ray shot 5-for-15, you still have to pay a lot of attention to him." Zach Randolph scored 16 points for the Blazers, who failed in a bid for their second win in five days over the Sonics. Portland defeated Seattle, 100-94, at the Rose Garden on Tuesday. The Blazers rallied from a 10-point deficit in the fourth quarter in that game, but got no closer than 83-78 on a 3-pointer by Nick Van Exel with 9:22 to play in this one. Portland did not make a basket over the next seven minutes as Seattle went on a 12-4 run to pull away. "We didn't have the same fight in us," said Portland forward Shareef Abdur-Rahim, who was one of six Blazers in double figures with 14 points. "We didn't keep fighting as hard as we did at home the other night."
