Game Story

OAKLAND, California (Ticker) -- Troy Murphy had one of the best games of his career, but with the contest on the line, the Golden State Warriors went to Derek Fisher. Fisher buried a jumper with 52 seconds remaining and preserved the lead with tight defense on Paul Pierce as the Warriors posted a 110-106 victory over the Boston Celtics. After Pierce made a pair of free throws to draw the Celtics within 105-104 with 1:04 to play, Fisher made a 21-footer from the right corner. Pierce, who scored 12 of his 26 points in the final period, responded with a driving layup, and Boston had a chance to move ahead when Golden State's Calbert Cheaney turned over the ball with 20 seconds remaining. But Fisher got a piece of Pierce's jumper with six seconds to go and got fouled after a Golden State timeout. After hitting the first free throw to make it 108-106, Fisher missed the second, but Jason Richardson tipped in the rebound. The win gave Golden State (5-12) its first winning streak of the season. Murphy scored 16 of his career-high 30 in the first half to give the Warriors a 57-55 advantage at the break. He added four more in a 9-3 run to start the third. But Jiri Welsch made a 3-pointer that ignited an 11-3 spurt to put the Celtics ahead, 69-68. Welsch scored 11 of his career-best 24 in the third quarter for the Celtics, who have lost eight of their last 11 road games against the Warriors.
