Game Story

TORONTO (Ticker) -- Improbably, the Toronto Raptors foiled Kevin Garnett and the Minnesota Timberwolves in the fourth quarter. Chris Bosh collected season highs of 24 points and 14 rebounds as the lowly Raptors snapped a seven-game losing streak with a 96-90 triumph over the powerful Timberwolves. "This was really special for me and I need to build on it and remember this feeling," said Bosh, who made 11-of-21 shots, both career highs. "Everybody played their hearts out tonight and we need to do that every day." Minnesota, which had been 10-0 this season when tied or ahead after three quarters, took a 74-71 lead into the fourth period and held a 79-75 edge after a jump hook by Garnett with 9:16 remaining. But Toronto countered with a 19-4 run, taking the lead for good, 80-79, on a jumper by rookie forward Matt Bonner with 8:08 left. "I think defensively we just didn't get the job done," said Minnesota guard Latrell Sprewell, who scored 13 points. "They did a good job of getting buckets on us. We didn't get the stops. We weren't making shots or attacking the basket." The cushion was 86-79 when Bonner committed a hard foul on Garnett under the basket with 5:24 to go, throwing the superstar to the floor. Garnett and Sprewell charged at Bonner but was restrained before a fight broke out. Bonner was called for a flagrant-2 foul and ejected. "Last year playing in Italy and dreaming about playing in the NBA, never in a million years would I expect to be ejected from an NBA game in the fourth quarter with two of the greatest players in the league coming for my throat," Bonner said. "It was hard foul that really didn't spark me until I saw him pointing up into the crowd like he's the enforcer," Garnett said. Garnett sank two free throws, but the altercation seemed to fire up the Raptors, who pulled away behind Morris Peterson, who scored 19 points. The forward scored on a spectacular follow dunk to make it 89-81 with 4:47 remaining, then nailed a 3-pointer to open a 94-83 advantage with 2:10 to play. The Raptors, who have won five in a row at home over the Timberwolves, connected on 11-of-21 3-pointers. Minnesota went 4-of-10 from the arc. There was some extra incentive for the Raptors since coach Sam Mitchell and new general manager Rob Babcock had ties to Minnesota. Mitchell played for the Wolves for 10 years and Babcock spent 12 years in the team's front office, the last two as vice president of player personnel. "They'd been in Minnesota for a while and we wanted to get the win for them," said Peterson, who made 4-of-6 3-pointers. Garnett contributed 23 points and 15 rebounds for Minnesota, which had won eight of its previous 10 games. He shot just 9-of-27. "I don't think I did a good job of getting my teammates the ball," said Garnett, who had five assists. "I missed a lot of shots, shots I know I usually hit. So if you want to put this loss on me, I'll take it."
