Game StoryMINNEAPOLIS (Ticker) -- The Phoenix Suns' remarkable start to the season now includes overcoming the most dominant night of Kevin Garnett's career. Amare Stoudemire scored 34 points and Steve Nash had 20 and 16 assists as the Suns continued their roll with a 122-115 triumph over the Minnesota Timberwolves. Minnesota's third straight loss offset a record-setting performance by Garnett, who scored a team-record 47 points and had 17 rebounds in the loss. Garnett's previous career high was 40 and the Timberwolves' record was 44, set by Tony Campbell and matched by Wally Szczerbiak. "I am not a person who gets (excited) about individual stats," Garnett said. "I was just trying to be aggressive. I focus on us and what we have to do to get out of this hole. Phoenix is supposed to be the best team in the league right now, and everyone was charged for that. We have to keep our heads up, keep fighting and keep working." Minnesota guard Troy Hudson felt that Garnett played with a chip on his shoulder. "(Garnett) is the MVP," Hudson said. "He has a lot of pride. Guys were talking mess to him. He is the type of person that you don't start jawing at. He came out tonight, played aggressive, grabbed rebounds for us and just carried us on his back." Even with Garnett's huge effort, Minnesota (16-13) was out of the game most of the night. Phoenix led by 21 points in the third quarter and only a late run by the Timberwolves made the score respectable. "In this league they say everyone one makes runs," Nash said. "They made a run, but it was a little too late. We had already done our work." "I told the guys we had great energy for the last six minutes," Minnesota coach Flip Saunders said. "We need to have that for 48. ... There's a reason they are 27-4. They spread the floor. Nash has the ball in his hands almost all of the time, and he makes great plays." The win was the third straight for the Suns (27-4), who own the best record in the sport. "It is a quality win for us to beat one of the NBA's most experienced teams and we learned some lessons," Nash said. "I thought we played with even more intensity than we have recently." Stoudemire, who has a 50-point game this season, was ejected following a skirmish with Latrell Sprewell with 5:09 left in the contest. Phoenix is 11-1 this season when its young star scores 30 in a game. "We came out ready to play," Stoudemire said. "Steve had an incredible game. This was a fun game. They're one of the elite teams in the league, and have been for a while. It's the most entertaining game we've played this year." "Amare is turning into a monster around the basket," Saunders added. "He is very difficult to defend." Phoenix avenged one of its four losses this season as the Timberwolves posted a 97-93 road triumph on December 3. In one of the two home losses the Suns have endured this season, Minnesota held a 59-47 edge on the boards. "The guys responded," Phoenix coach Mike D'Antoni said. "We did all the dirty work. We kept them off the offensive rebounds - or at least negated that big hole we had the first game - and put up a lot of points on the board."
