Game Story

ORLANDO, Florida (Ticker) -- Steve Francis and the Orlando Magic ended a losing streak by raising their game. Francis scored 25 of his 35 points in the second half while Grant Hill added 21 as the Magic ended a season-high four-game slide with a 105-87 victory over the Seattle SuperSonics. Orlando had not won since beating San Antonio on December 22, losing to three teams with losing records during its slide. But it bounced back against Seattle, which ended Miami's 14-game winning streak Monday. "The last few weeks, we struggled with teams we felt we were supposed to beat," Hill said. "When you play a team that you know can come in and embarrass you, you play with more pride." "We knew that this was a good team coming in and we were struggling," Orlando guard Cutino Mobley said. "It's like a shark when they smell blood; they want to attack." Francis rebounded from 7-of-26 shooting over his last two contests to connect on 13-of-23 from the floor, including all three from the arc. He added 11 rebounds and six assists. "The Magic made some adjustments in the second half and Steve Francis caught fire," Sonics forward Rashard Lewis said. "He got hot and basically hit everything he put up." Francis and Hill combined for 22 points in a 26-6 burst that gave the Magic a 72-57 lead with 3:02 remaining in the third period. Winners of their previous six road outings, Seattle closed to 83-80 early in the fourth period, but Francis capped an 11-0 response with a 10-footer with 6:08 remaining to seal the victory. "Steve Francis got hot," Seattle guard Ray Allen said. "He carried the team in the second half." The SuperSonics rolled to a 31-17 lead with 8:54 left in the second quarter behind Allen, who scored 16 of his 30 points in the first quarter. "We built the lead in the first quarter and then we got loose with the ball and allowed them to get back in the game," Seattle coach Nate McMillan said. Lewis added 20 points for Seattle, which was done in by 3-of-26 shooting by its bench. Orlando reserve Hedo Turkoglu outscored Seattle's bench, 14-13. The SuperSonics were without leading rebounder Reggie Evans, who missed due to the stomach flu. The team suffered without him, getting outrebounded, 52-36.
