Game StoryORLANDO, Florida (Ticker) -- Dwight Howard evened things up with Emeka Okafor. In a matchup of the first two players picked in June's draft, Howard recorded his 10th double-double of the season as the Orlando Magic posted a 111-91 victory over the Charlotte Bobcats. Selected first overall out of Atlanta Southwest Christian Academy, the 19-year-old Howard fared poorly in his first meeting against Okafor, a 111-100 loss at Charlotte on November 6. He had five points and 12 rebounds in that contest. Howard was more active on the offensive end in this one, collecting 10 points and 12 rebounds in 21 minutes. "I got more opportunities this game and wanted to be more assertive, go right at him and get some easy buckets," Howard said. "I just wanted to be another presence for my team on the offensive side." Okafor, the second overall pick after leading Connecticut to the national championship last season, recorded one of his 22 double-doubles in the first meeting against Howard when he had 12 points and 14 rebounds. He was not nearly as successful in this one as he finished with 15 points and six rebounds in 25 minutes. While the focus was on the young big men, Pat Garrity and Hedo Turkoglu took care of things from off the Magic bench. Garrity finished with 16 points and connected all four of his 3-point attempts in the first half, as the Magic built a 63-51 lead. "When you can extend leads and give your starters rest, that's what a bench is supposed to do," Garrity said. "Jameer (Nelson) always does a good job of getting the tempo going, and Hedo is such a dangerous threat." Turkoglu led the Magic with 22 points, including 12 in the first half. Led by Garrity and Turkoglu, the Magic held a 58-30 advantage in bench points. Orlando matched its home win total (11) from last season. "I thought Pat Garrity and Hedo really gave us a tremendous lift of the bench tonight," Magic coach Johnny Davis said. "When those two are playing well it really helps." Grant Hill added 16 points for Orlando, which placed six players in double figures and won its second straight following a four-game losing streak. "It's good whenever you can get (bench) guys to come in and basically run the same offense and same defense," said Magic guard Steve Francis, who had 13 assists. "They were able to come in and score most of the points, that's great." The Magic shot 51 percent (38-of-75) and held a 46-36 rebounding edge. "They had a great night shooting," said Charlotte point guard Brevin Knight, who had 10 assists. "Pat Garrity came in shooting those threes and killed us. It just wasn't our night." Primoz Brezec scored 18 points, in just 19 minutes to lead the Bobcats, who lost for the seventh time in eight games.
