Game StoryMINNEAPOLIS (Ticker) -- Kevin Garnett ruled the boards, but it was not enough for the struggling Minnesota Timberwolves. Hedo Turkoglu scored 26 points as the Orlando Magic overcame Garnett's NBA season-high 25 rebounds to post a 87-80 victory over the Timberwolves. "We really played well as a team," Turkoglu said. "It was a great effort overall as a team. We used help inside, and it was great to get a win in a close game. We have struggled late, especially in the fourth quarter, but we executed well and hung on to win." Grant Hill added 20 points and Steve Francis 17 for Orlando, which snapped a seven-game road losing streak. "I think they responded like true professionals tonight," Magic coach Johnny Davis said. "They put that (Monday's loss at Boston) behind them. They approached this game in a very workmanlike manner and had good concentration and focus." The rebounding total matched a career high for Garnett, who also contributed 19 points and eight rebounds. But he could not prevent Minnesota from losing for the ninth time in 11 games. "I think there's only one other player in the league, and that's Kevin Garnett, that works harder than me," Francis said. "But for them, I feel sorry. They're going through what we went through two weeks ago, and they've just got to work through it." The Timberwolves (17-17) dropped to .500 with their third straight defeat, marking the first they do not have a winning record after 34 games since the 1996-97 season - Garnett's second in the NBA. "We need a win in the worst way," Minnesota guard Fred Hoiberg said. "This year, down the stretch we have not played well. This is a league based on confidence. When you let teams hang around, they take advantage of that. I think the biggest thing for us is to get our swagger back. We haven't had that." The Wolves shot just 39 percent (30-of-77) from the field against the Magic, who came in allowing an NBA-worst 101.5 points per game. Orlando yielded an average of 109 points in its previous seven road contests. The 80 points allowed was a season low for the Magic, who converted 17 Minnesota turnovers into 18 points. "Every night it seems to be something different," Hoiberg said. "Tonight it was turnovers and fast-break points off those turnovers." The Timberwolves cut an 11-point deficit to 84-80 on Latrell Sprewell's jumper with 1:35 remaining but came up empty on their final five possessions. The stretch included two turnovers, two missed shots and an offensive foul. "We are shocked and we don't know what to say," said Minnesota's Wally Szczerbiak, who scored 14 points. "We just need to figure out how to get that edge back." After a tight first quarter, Orlando went ahead for good midway through the second period and led, 48-41, at the break. The Magic opened a 73-62 lead on rookie Jameer Nelson's jumper with 11:07 left in the contest. "We're struggling in a lot of areas," Minnesota coach Flip Saunders said. "Tonight as as coach, I was disappointed with the way we started the game in the first half in regards to our energy. It was extremely poor, almost embarrassing."
