Game StorySAN ANTONIO (Ticker) -- For the third time this season, Tim Duncan and the San Antonio Spurs got the better of their intrastate rival Dallas Mavericks. Duncan scored 25 points as the Spurs beat the Mavericks, 98-95, for their 11th consecutive victory at the SBC Center. Manu Ginobili added 22 points - including three key free throws in the waning seconds - for San Antonio, which improved its league-best home mark to 19-1. "We knew coming in that against Dallas it was going to be tough," Ginobili said. "They have so many guys who can make shots on their team." The Spurs - who routed the Mavericks twice in late November - held an 89-77 lead after Rasho Nesterovic made a short jumper in the paint with 4:47 left. But Dallas came back, pulling within 95-93 on a 3-pointer by Jason Terry with 43 seconds to go. Ginobili missed a 3-pointer with about 18 seconds to play, but teammate Devin Brown skied for the rebound, and the Mavericks were forced to foul. Ginobili calmly sank both free throws to make it 97-93. "That was a huge rebound for us at that time and Devin really played well in the time he was in there," Spurs coach Gregg Popovich said of Brown, who scored nine points in 15 minutes off the bench. "I was pleased with the role he played tonight." "I was able to lose my man on the rebound on our end of the floor with just a little time left and was fortunate to be at the right place at the right time," Brown said. "It was big for us and I'm glad I was able to contribute." After Dirk Nowitzki halved the deficit with a jumper with 2.7 seconds left, Ginobili split a pair from the line with one second left. He missed his second attempt, but Nowitzki badly misfired on a desperation 80-foot heave at the buzzer. "Every game is huge for us, especially against these guys since they are in our division," Duncan said. "It really helps to have games like this where it is tight down the stretch." Nowitzki collected 36 points and 14 rebounds for the undermanned Mavericks, who played without regulars Erick Dampier, Josh Howard and Marquis Daniels. "We really hung in there," Nowitzki said. "It wasn't a thing of a lack of effort. Everybody played hard tonight. They gave it their best shot and we lost to a good team - only the best home team in the league. They're a smart basketball team and they deserved to win." Dallas shot 43 percent (37-of-86) but allowed San Antonio to make half its 76 shots. "I thought we played as high a level as we could and I'm very pleased with our effort," Dallas coach Don Nelson said. "There was a couple of huge plays, and I thought the offensive rebound by Brown was really a big play that set us back and gave them another possession. ... (But) I thought we played well, we played hard, and we were pretty effective tonight."
