Game StoryINDIANAPOLIS (Ticker) -- The Indiana Pacers struggled mightily from the arc all game. When Jamaal Tinsley finally sank one, it came too late. Tinsley's banked 3-pointer came after the buzzer as the Pacers were edged by the Orlando Magic, 85-84. "It was one of those blue-collar games," said Orlando coach Johnny Davis, a former Pacer. "As a team, we made the plays we had to make. We hit some big free throws down the stretch." Hedo Turkoglu scored 23 points and Grant Hill added nine of his 19 in the fourth quarter for the Magic, who led by as many as 18 points late in the second period and 71-59 with 10 minutes remaining. Indiana got within one point on several occasions down the stretch, including 83-82 on a jump hook by Jermaine O'Neal with 28 seconds left. After Kelvin Cato sank two free throws with seven seconds remaining to make it 85-82, guard Doug Christie - playing his first game with the Magic since being acquired from Sacramento on Monday for Cuttino Mobley - inexplicably fouled Reggie Miller beyond the arc with 3.3 seconds left. But Miller, a 94 percent foul shooter, missed his first attempt. He sank his second free throw and tried to miss his third, but the high-arcing shot went in. "I was having deja vu a little bit," Christie said. "When I was in Toronto, I was in the same situation, only that time I did foul him. He hit all three and we lost. I was thinking that my first game here was really going to (stink). I don't know that I've ever seen him let a team off the hook like that." "One of the hardest things for anybody to do is have to make three straight free throws in a situation like that," Pacers coach Rick Carlisle said. "It happens to clutch players." Orlando rookie Jameer Nelson missed a pair of free throws with 2.6 seconds to go and Indiana's Jeff Foster rebounded the second miss. His desperation throw was partially blocked by Cato - and right to Tinsley downcourt near the right hash mark. But Tinsley could not get his shot off in time, and the Magic escaped with the win. "I don't think we did a great job of closing them out," Hill said. "Anytime that you hold a team to 84 points at home, you are going to give yourself a chance to win." O'Neal collected 38 points and 15 rebounds for the Pacers but went just 4-of-8 from the line in the fourth quarter. As a team, they missed seven free throws in the final period. "We started out slow and made a push late, but it wasn't enough," O'Neal said. "I'm not going to talk about Reggie's miss. ... I missed six big ones tonight, too. All you can do is shoot 'em. Sometimes you miss." "I continue to be impressed with Jermaine O'Neal," Davis said. "He made some big plays for them. They're a quality team and we were very fortunate to get the win." The Pacers went just 24-of-38 from the line and an anemic 2-of-14 from the arc.
