Game Story

MEMPHIS, Tennessee (Ticker) -- Jason Williams made the long-distance shots look as easy as layups. Williams sank a career-high seven 3-pointers and scored 25 points, leading the Memphis Grizzlies to a 101-82 victory over the Milwaukee Bucks, who have lost four in a row. "Jason Williams had a huge game," Bucks coach Terry Porter said. "He hit shots, built the lead and made it tough for us." "(Williams) hurt us big-time," Bucks guard Michael Redd said. "Anytime he would shoot, he'd hit a big three." In winning for the 11th time in their last 14 games, the Grizzlies set a franchise mark with 13 3-pointers, breaking the old record of 12 last done March 26, 2003 against the Phoenix Suns. "We're sharing a lot," Grizzlies swingman James Posey said. "We're sharing the ball and giving everyone shots, and tonight the ball fell for us. We have a lot of guys who are unselfish and willing to make that extra pass to give someone the open shot and make this game a lot easier." The 13 3-pointers were the most allowed by Milwaukee this season, who fell to 3-15 on the road. "We need to do something about that," Redd said. "We need to be more aggressive on the defensive end and take more chances." Williams made five 3-pointers in the third quarter, including four in a row, to give Memphis a 69-52 edge. The Bucks cut the deficit to 83-76 on Joe Smith's 10-footer with 7:54 remaining before Williams started a 10-0 run with his sixth 3-pointer, ending any hopes of a Milwaukee comeback. The Bucks committed 16 turnovers, which led to 25 Grizzlies' points. "I think the key to this game was that we were able to get some quick turnovers and steals," Grizzlies coach Mike Fratello said. "We had a couple flurries there that helped to get some good baskets." Bonzi Wells came off the bench to score 21 points. He sparked an 11-2 spurt that closed the first half and gave Memphis the lead for good at 48-42. "Bonzi feels like he's in a groove with that second unit," Fratello said. "He started last game and didn't have that same groove." Pau Gasol, who almost didn't play because of a sore foot, also scored 21 points and was among five Grizzlies in double figures. "This was a nice win at home for us," Gasol said. "It was our 20th of the season and it puts us two (games) above .500." Redd scored 28 points and Joe Smith added 12 and 11 rebounds for the Bucks.
