Game StoryATLANTA (Ticker) -- Antoine Walker all but assured the Atlanta Hawks of going winless against the New Jersey Nets this season. In one of the worst games of his career, Walker missed 15 of 18 shots, then made a free throw when his team needed a miss, allowing the Nets to post an 85-84 triumph over the Hawks and end their four-game losing streak. Despite his eighth straight double-double, Walker endured a nightmarish effort in which he was 0-of-6 from 3-point range overall and 0-of-4 from the field in the fourth quarter. Even an 8-of-12 performance from the line was hollow as the 66 percent free throw shooter sank a shot from the line with his team down, 85-83, with 1.1 seconds to go. Walker, who missed a free throw he needed to make on the previous possession, sighed as his teammates crashed the boards expecting the miss. New Jersey inbounded the ball successfully, ending any hopes Atlanta had of extending its home winning streak to three games. "I didn't think (my game) was that bad. I don't care that much (about the statistics)," Walker said. "It was just a tough shooting night. ... It was a tough game to swallow." Walker appeared confused on the issue that requires the ball only hit the rim on an attempt. "You can't make it look like you missed it on purpose or the referees will call you on it," said Walker. "You have to miss it a certain way. I was just trying to miss it short and it went in." Walker was on the line in the waning seconds because New Jersey coach Lawrence Frank decided to foul Walker after Jason Collins missed a free throw with 1.9 seconds remaining, even though Walker was 90 feet from the basket. "I will never live down not fouling (Detroit's) Chauncey Billups in Game Five (of the 2004 Eastern Conference semifinals). It's my philosophy and even if they did not have a play, I will live with it." Vince Carter and Jason Kidd led New Jersey (13-24) with 23 points apiece despite shooting a combined 17-of-43 from the field. New Jersey shot just 39 percent (32-of-82) and was outrebounded, 52-38. "Vince (Carter) controlled it early. He was very aggressive and that's what we needed," said Kidd, who scored 19 points in the second half. I just tried to join the party." Al Harrington scored 22 points and Walker added 14 and 11 rebounds for the Hawks (7-28), who were swept in a season series by the Nets for the first time. "We didn't have it tonight offensively," said Walker. "I didn't have it individually and we missed some shots that we usually make."
