Game Story

ORLANDO, Florida (Ticker) -- After being away for several months, Tracy McGrady thrived on his old home court. McGrady led five players in double figures with 27 points against his former team as the Houston Rockets posted a 108-99 victory over the Orlando Magic. "I didn't want to come out and make it that Tracy McGrady show by just jacking up shots," McGrady said. "It was real special for me coming back here because this is home." During his four seasons with the Magic, McGrady evolved into a top player and won a pair of scoring titles. But he did not receive a warm welcome in his first game in Orlando since a seven-player trade in June as the crowd showered him with boos for most of the night. "I knew the reception I was going to get," McGrady said. "It really wasn't that bad. Actually, Toronto was worse." McGrady didn't seem affected, making four of his first six shots and helping the Rockets to a 50-33 lead in the second quarter. "The most important thing for us was to come out and hit them first," McGrady said. "We jumped out early and that gave us confidence. From there we just took off." Orlando gradually reduced the deficit and got within 96-92 when Dwight Howard hit a layup with 3:30 left. But McGrady scored the next four points and the Magic never recovered. "(McGrady) did a good job of distributing the ball but also looking for his shots," Magic guard Grant Hill said. "It's tough when he scores 40 or 50 points. But I think it's even tougher when he does that." Yao Ming made his first seven shots en route to 20 points, while Bob Sura just missed a triple-double with 19 points, a season-high 11 rebounds and nine assists. "It was a pretty intense game," Sura said. "The crowd was into it from the start and it almost had a playoff feel to it. He told us five days ago that we all better bring our A-games for this one tonight. Steve Francis, who was sent to Orlando in the deal involving McGrady, scored 28 points and Hill added 21 despite playing with a sore right wrist. Houston collected 17 offensive boards that led to 28 second-chance points and outrebounded Orlando, 45-37. "They came out prepared," Francis said. "They got too many offensive rebounds for us to compete."
