Game Story

MIAMI (Ticker) -- Jamaal Tinsley and Reggie Miller helped the Indiana Pacers continue their domination of the Miami Heat. Tinsley scored eight of his 30 points in the final 2 1/2 minutes of regulation and Miller hit two big 3-pointers in overtime as the Pacers posted a 106-100 victory over the Heat. The win was Indiana's 10th straight in the regular season over Miami, the Heat's longest current losing streak against any opponent. The teams met in the playoffs last season, with the Pacers winning in six games. The Pacers led for the entire second half until Dwyane Wade's layup gave Miami an 81-80 lead with 3:35 left in the fourth quarter. The lead changed hands eight times down the stretch, with Tinsley sending the game into overtime with a jumper over Keyon Dooling with 0.9 seconds to go. "Shots are going in," Tinsley said. "It was a fun game and we got the win. " Over his last three games, Tinsley is scoring 28.7 points on 59 percent shooting. "He can be an explosive scorer, and he still has the point guard mentality," Indiana coach Rick Carlisle said. "He's really a pivotal guy. I love the way he's playing. He's bringing the level of his teammates up." Miller scored eight of his 18 points in overtime. He opened the extra period with a 3-pointer that gave Indiana the lead for good. He added another shot from the arc with 1:36 remaining to push the lead to 101-96. "We found a way to make some key stops," Carlisle said. "And we hit some 3-point shots." Miami's Damon Jones made a 3-pointer on the other and Udonis Haslem had a chance to tie it but made just 1-of-2 free throws. Jermaine O'Neal's short hook gave the Pacers a 103-100 edge with 30 seconds to play, and Fred Jones and Miller combined to make 3-of-4 from the line to seal the win. Free throws were a problem all game for the Heat, who made just 47 percent (17-of-36) from the stripe. Shaquille O'Neal was 4-of-13 from the line. "We were fortunate he was missing some free throws tonight," Carlisle said. "He had improved the past few years." "I missed too many," O'Neal said. "They were smarter than we were, especially in the fourth quarter." While Miami was struggling from the line, Indiana made 21-of-24 free throws. "That is your game right there," Heat coach Stan Van Gundy said. Wade scored 30 points and O'Neal added 24 and 10 rebounds for Miami, which lost just its third game to an Eastern Conference opponent this season. Despite sitting in seventh place in the East, the Pacers (20-18) showed that they could still be a factor against the conference's top team. "So far it's one of the biggest wins," Tinsley said. "But if we don't go out tomorrow and win, it won't matter." "They are one of the elite teams and they showed that tonight," Shaquille O'Neal said. "They were more efficient than we were down the stretch, and they capitalized on our mistakes. We need to get the killer instinct and bring it home."
