Game Story

DENVER (Ticker) -- Earl Boykins' scoring binge carried over for another game. Boykins had 25 points and 10 assists off the bench as the Denver Nuggets posted a 92-82 victory over the Memphis Grizzlies. In Denver's win over Seattle on Tuesday, Boykins exploded for an NBA-record 15 points in overtime. He made 10-of-13 shots in this one to help the Nuggets win consecutive games for the first time since reeling off four in a row in early December. "We've been playing team basketball," Boykins said. "We've been getting good effort and we are moving the ball well. When we play like that, we're tough to beat." The 5-5 Boykins took over late in the third period, when Denver pulled away with a 10-1 run. "I'm playing with a lot of confidence and my teammates are looking for me, especially after defensive rebounds," Boykins said. "We are running a lot more pick-and-rolls, and that gets me a lot more involved. We're running different plays each game and that is making it tough to scout us." After Shane Battier drew Memphis even, 64-64, with two minutes on the clock, Boykins hit an 18-footer on the other end to give Denver the lead for good. Bryon Russell and Boykins made consecutive 3-pointers to make it 72-64 with 33 seconds left. Brian Cardinal made a free throw before Boykins' shot at the buzzer gave the Nuggets a 74-65 edge entering the fourth quarter. The Grizzlies got no closer than seven thereafter. "We started off great, but you have to give them a lot of credit," said Memphis swingman James Posey, who scored 15 points. "They are still a very good team, despite their record. They were able to come and get stops, got rebounds, and then Earl came in and just pushed out of the game." Marcus Camby collected 18 points, 13 rebounds and six blocks for the Nuggets, who played without injured star forward Carmelo Anthony. Anthony sprained his right ankle in the third quarter of Tuesday's win. Even without Anthony, the Nuggets held a 49-24 edge on the boards, the team's largest rebounding differential of the season. "They dominated us," Grizzlies coach Mike Fratello said. "We took hurried and bad shots. They deserve a lot of credit, but Earl really deserves the credit. They just played better than we did." Like Boykins, Camby has also raised his game during the Nugget' modest winning streak with 43 points and 37 boards in the last two games. Lorenzen Wright scored 17 points and Jason Williams recorded a season-high 15 assists for the Grizzlies, who have not won in Denver since 1997 and had a four-game winning streak snapped. "This was a very big game for us," Nuggets interim coach Michael Cooper said. "We were able to stay within our game plan and didn't beat ourselves. We beat a very good team."
