Game StoryMEMPHIS, Tennessee (Ticker) -- A huge fourth quarter made the Memphis Grizzlies forget they were missing their leading scorer. Mike Miller scored eight points and Stromile Swift added seven as the Grizzlies erupted for 32 in the final period and posted a 95-83 triumph over the Orlando Magic without injured forward Pau Gasol. Winners of 11 of their previous 13 games, the Grizzlies learned they would be without Gasol - their leading scorer and rebounder with averages of 18.9 points and 8.2 boards - for at least five games with plantar fasciaitis. Despite Gasol's absence, Memphis remained close, entering the break tied at 42-42 and trailing by just one point after three quarters. "There isn't any pressure when a guy goes down on this team," Swift said. "We've got enough guys on this team that can play. That's the difference with our team." "When their top players are out, other players are going to step in and play well," Magic guard Steve Francis said. "With their rotation, they can do that." Orlando, which shot just 29 percent (5-of-17) in the fourth period, was unable to pull away after taking a 69-65 lead with 9 1/2 minutes remaining and held just a 79-77 advantage following Francis' jumper with 4:21 to go. The Grizzlies then took control as a three-point play by Swift and a 3-pointer by Miller - who was activated from the injured list earlier - ignited a 10-0 run that put Memphis ahead, 87-79, with 1:31 remaining. "The bottom line is we were rebounding, we were getting out and running and we were making shots," Miller said. Shane Battier scored the final four points of the burst while Swift - who started in place of Gasol - added a pair of baskets down the stretch to secure the Grizzlies' sixth win in seven games. "Stromile stepped in and did a great job," Magic center Tony Battie said. "You're supposed to be on the bench licking your chops, ready to go in. I'm glad to see he did that, not for us, but for him." Swift had 18 points and nine rebounds while blocking three shots, including two in the latter stages of the fourth quarter. "I thought they'd start trying to take some jump shots, but they kept coming at me," Swift said. "I saw they were coming at me, so I started trying to block shots and change shots." "Stromile had some huge defensive plays late in the game that looked like baskets for them and turned out to be baskets for us," Grizzlies coach Mike Fratello said. Memphis used an 11-0 spurt to grab a 21-10 lead with 3:38 to go in the first quarter, with Battier scoring five points during the burst. But with his team trailing, 27-17, early in the second period, Orlando guard Jameer Nelson scored seven straight points to pull the Magic within three with 8:47 remaining. Grant Hill scored six points during an 8-1 run that forged a 42-42 tie at the half, and Orlando went on an 8-2 burst to take a 59-53 lead with three minutes to go in the third quarter. Doug Christie scored all seven of his points during the Magic's spurt. James Posey and Lorenzen Wright each chipped in 12 and eight for Memphis, which has won eight of its last 10 home games. Francis and Hill scored 18 points apiece for the Magic, who failed to surpass 85 points for the second straight game. Orlando scored a season-low 78 points in Monday's loss to Houston. "We're still making the same mistakes we were making in week one and week two," Francis said. "We're playing hard, but when you don't move the ball and you don't get the shots, you can't get it done."
