Game Story

MILWAUKEE (Ticker) -- Steve Nash has the Phoenix Suns in fifth gear again. Nash handed out eight of his 17 assists in the decisive third quarter as the Suns sped past the Milwaukee Bucks, 121-115, for their third straight win. "I'm just trying to make things happen for my teammates, because we have a lot of guys picking it up for us right now," Nash said. With Nash sidelined with a bruised thigh earlier this month, the Suns were held to their three lowest totals of the season. He returned in Friday's 128-123 overtime loss to San Antonio that extended Phoenix's losing streak to six games and has had the offense humming ever since. During the winning streak, Phoenix is averaging 122.3 points per game, its best three-game stretch of the season. Nash is averaging 16.7 points and 11 assists during that span. "That's when we're at our best," Nash said. "When we keep the score under 100, we're not nearly as successful." The Bucks hung with the high-powered Suns for a half, trailing, 61-57. Nash put the offense into overdrive in the third period, quarterbacking Phoenix to a 93-82 lead entering the final quarter. "He is this year's MVP," said Bucks guard Michael Redd, who scored 27 points. "He's just phenomenal - the premier point guard in the league, no question." It was Nash's seventh game this season of more than 15 assists. The rest of the NBA has four. "The difference with him (Nash) is that he is a true point guard, he looks to pass first, then get his shots second, that's rare in this league and that's what this team needs," Suns forward Shawn Marion said. Marion scored 24 points, Amare Stoudemire added 23, Quentin Richardson 18 and Joe Johnson 17 for the Suns, who improved to 2-0 on their season-high six-game road trip. Phoenix has won 25 of its last 28 meetings with Milwaukee. Maurice Williams scored 17 points and Mike James added 15 for the Bucks, who had won three of their last four games. "It was one of those situations you say you're proud of the way you competed and go home," Bucks coach Terry Porter said.
