Game Story

TORONTO (Ticker) -- Shaquille O'Neal collected 33 points and 18 rebounds and Eddie Jones scored 23 points as the Miami Heat continued their Canadian dominance with to a 111-96 victory over the Toronto Raptors. Miami has won five consecutive games at the Air Canada Centre, including both matchups this season. The Raptors, who dropped just their sixth home game this season, have not beaten the Heat here since March 27, 2002. Toronto had won five straight and 10 of its last 11 at home before Miami came to town and dealt the Raptors their largest home loss of the season. "It's important for us to go on the road and win some games," Jones said. "The other night was a tough loss in Philadelphia and I think we bounced back perfectly." "I thought it was a great win for us," Miami coach Stan Van Gundy said. "Other than San Antonio, nobody has been playing better at home than Toronto. So to come in here and win by 15, I think it's one of our best wins of the year." With the game tied, 26-26, Miami closed the first quarter by scoring the final six points to take the lead for good. Jones had five points, including a three-point play with 22 seconds remaining. "Some nights they are going to go in and tonight they did," said Jones, who was 8-of-11 from the floor and 6-of-7 from the line. O'Neal helped put away the game midway through the second quarter as he scored 12 straight Heat points to help give Miami a 61-46 halftime advantage. "Today we played better team ball, better defense and we did what we're supposed to do," O'Neal said. "We always go to Shaq," Van Gundy said. "He is a great player and a dominant guy and he really got on the boards tonight. He made some key rebounds. He was fabulous." The 7-footer's thunderous dunk at 9:57 of the third quarter closed out an 18-5 run to give Miami a 72-50 lead, its biggest of the game. "It's a tough matchup," said Jalen Rose, who scored 13 points off the bench for the Raptors. "At the end of the day, it starts and ends with Shaq. He's the guy that had over 30 points and almost 20 rebounds." The Heat had gone just 5-6 after a franchise-record 14 game winning streak, including losses in five of their previous eight games. "We just have to go out and keep playing, and try to develop some consistency," O'Neal said. It's better than our so-so mark, but games we've lost it's been about what we're not doing." Former Heat Rafer Alston scored 29 points and Chris Bosh added 27 - both career highs - for the Raptors. Bosh scored 15 points in the first quarter but made just 1-of-10 shots the rest of the way. "I can't let stuff get me down," Bosh said. "I got in early foul trouble and I have to learn how not to foul in situations like that, in order to stay in the game." "We were moving the ball and getting good shots, we were just missing them," Alston said. "I wasn't out there trying to destroy my former club, I had a great year there. I was just able to get to the basket, score, get to the line and get it going offensively." Toronto dropped to 0-20 when opponents score 100 or more points and Miami improved to 24-3 when hitting the century mark.
