Game StoryMEMPHIS, Tennessee (Ticker) -- If the Atlanta Hawks weren't frustrated enough waiting around the airport, they had to watch Tyronn Lue's potential game-winner bounce off the side of the rim as time expired. After having severe weather repeatedly delay their flight and prevent them from arriving until just before tip-off, the Hawks saw their gritty effort come up just short in an 84-83 loss to the Memphis Grizzlies. Mike Miller tied the game, 79-79, with a layup with 3:14 to go and put the Grizzlies ahead, 82-81, with a 3-pointer 72 seconds later. Jason Williams added a key jumper with 1:38 remaining to put Memphis ahead by three. With Atlanta trailing, 84-83, and the clock winding down, Lue sliced through the lane and hoisted an off-balance floater that clanged off the side of the rim as the horn sounded. "We tried to go inside to Al (Harrington), but they switched and fronted, so we had to attack the basket," Lue said. "It was a tough game tonight and we pulled it out," Miller said. "It was a slugfest tonight and they came out with something to prove." Williams did not think the delay only affected Memphis. "Our routine wasn't messed up as bad as their routine was, they had to wait on a plane and didn't get here until a couple of hours before the tip," he said. Williams scored 23 points and Miller added 21 for the Grizzlies (25-20). "I have to say that I have to give a lot of credit to those guys in the (Atlanta) locker room," Memphis coach Mike Fratello said. "They had been waiting in Atlanta, checked into a hotel, waited some more, then got here around 5 o'clock and 6 o'clock to play a game tonight." "I think it was an unbelievable effort tonight," Atlanta coach Mike Woodson said. "We fought from beginning to end and gave ourselves (a chance) to win. We went down and fought back. I would have loved to see us walk out with a win tonight." Harrington led Atlanta (8-34) with 18 points and Lue and Antoine Walker added 17 apiece. The Hawks sank half their 14 3-pointers. Memphis made just 4-of-16 from the arc and was 6-of-12 from the line but held a 44-36 edge on the boards. Atlanta led, 75-68, just under five minutes into the final quarter but Shane Battier's bank shot with 6:40 to go ignited a 7-2 burst. Williams' jumper with 4:39 left knotted the game with 4:39 remaining. The Hawks took their last lead, 81-79, on two free throws by Harrington with 2:31 left. Miller hit his 3-pointer 29 seconds later, putting the Grizzlies on top for good.
