Game Story

MINNEAPOLIS (Ticker) -- The Sacramento Kings were without star forwards Chris Webber and Peja Stojakovic but still had enough to defeat the surging Minnesota Timberwolves. Brad Miller collected 27 points and 15 rebounds as the Kings overcame the absence of their two injured starters to snap the Timberwolves' five-game winning streak, 94-84. Mike Bibby scored 19 of his 21 points and Cuttino Mobley 15 of his 23 in the second half for Sacramento, which trailed at the break, 45-39. "Guys just try and step up," Bibby said. "Whenever we have people down, people step up." "We knew going in that without C-Webb and without Stojakovic, they've still got some quality players over there," said Minnesota guard Troy Hudson, who scored 10 points. "I think we're a veteran enough team to know that this team wasn't going to lay down because they didn't have two of their starters." The Kings shot just 36 percent (16-of-45) in the first half but 51 percent (24-of-47) after intermission. "In the first half we were weak," Mobley said. "I think we were zero for a million, but we knew if we stuck with it we could make it happen." Mobley scored 10 points and Bibby eight in the third quarter, when Sacramento outscored Minnesota, 31-17, to take a 70-62 lead into the final period. "Mike Bibby went 0-for-8 in the first half," Minnesota coach Flip Saunders said. "We knew that wasn't going to happen again." "I needed to be more aggressive," said Bibby, who made 9-of-15 shots after the break. "I was not hitting my shots in the first half. When I came out in the second half I just took my time and shot it up. I knew I wasn't going to miss all my shots." The Kings led by at least eight points throughout the fourth quarter and beat the Timberwolves for the first time in three tries this season. "At the half we knew we had to come out and make the first spurt of the second half if we were going to have a chance," Kings coach Rick Adelman said. "We did a great job of getting back into the game, and came away with a great win for our team." Kevin Garnett recorded 21 points, 13 rebounds and seven assists and Wally Szczerbiak added 17 points for Minnesota, which was aiming for its first six-game winning streak of the season. "It was extremely disappointing after winning five and coming out today and not giving the energy it takes to win," Saunders added. "Miller, Bibby and Mobley came out and dominated the game." "Very disappointing, knowing they didn't have a lot of their guys playing tonight," Garnett said. "(It was) a situation we could've taken advantage of, but we didn't."
