Game StoryDENVER (Ticker) -- So far, so good for George Karl's tenure as coach of the Denver Nuggets. Kenyon Martin scored 25 of his season-high 27 points in the first three quarters and led four players in double figures as the Nuggets posted an easy 96-76 victory over the slumping New York Knicks. Denver is 3-0 since Karl replaced Michael Cooper as coach, while the Knicks fell to 1-5 since interim coach Herb Williams took over for Lenny Wilkins. "Coach is bringing energy," Martin said. "He's doing it with his pregame speeches and his practices. It starts with coach and we need to continue to play hard." "We did a lot of good things defensively," Karl said. "There are a lot of good basketball players on this team. The more I am around them, the more I think I can help them." The Nuggets shot 56 percent (25-of-45) from the field in the first half. Martin scored six of Denver's last 10 points to open a 57-45 edge at intermission. Martin then outscored the Knicks by himself in the third quarter, 14-12. New York, which has lost 14 of 16 and fell into a tie for last place in the Atlantic Division, shot 23 percent (4-of-17) in the period. "We didn't come out with energy tonight," Williams said. "If you don't match the energy when you play a back-to-back on the road, then you are going to get flattened out and then they're going to take you out of the game." "We didn't have any heart the entire game," Knicks guard Stephon Marbury said. Denver, which improved to 8-1 against the Eastern Conference at home, did not let up in the early moments of the fourth period as Martin scored on a running dunk, Carmelo Anthony hit a 3-pointer and Bryon Russell buried a jump shot for an 84-61 advantage. Anthony scored 19 points while former Knick Marcus Camby added 10 with 10 rebounds for the Nuggets, which had a 47-32 advantage on the glass. "We know coach Karl is going to be here for a long time," Anthony said. "We have no choice but to listen because he wants to get better. So do we. He is the boss and we are the workers." Jamal Crawford, who had 31 points in a victory against the Nuggets on December 12, led New York in scoring with 20 points on 5-for-5 shooting from behind the arc. Crawford does not blame the team's recent slump on the coaching changes. "Herb is doing a great job, but it's just not showing," Crawford said. "If we had Red Auerbach - or whoever the greatest coach is supposed to be - coaching us right now, I'm not sure things would change because it has to come from within this locker room and the players on this team." Penny Hardaway added a season-high 15 points off the bench for New York, which dropped its seventh consecutive road game.
