Game StoryMEMPHIS, Tennessee (Ticker) -- Bobby Simmons came through early and late, but it was the performance of Marko Jaric that enabled the Los Angeles Clippers to be in position to win. Simmons had nine points apiece in the opening and closing quarters and Jaric had 16 of his 25 in the third quarter as the Clippers snapped their six-game road losing streak with a 106-103 triumph over the Memphis Grizzlies. Simmons, who finished with 26 points on 10-of-12 shooting, had two big baskets down the stretch. He capitalized on an offensive rebound by Elton Brand, burying a jumper that got Los Angeles within 95-94 with 2:07 to go. Just 37 seconds later, Simmons had a three-point play to put the Clippers on top 97-95 - their first lead since early in the second quarter. "I saw an opportunity to make plays (in the fourth quarter)," Simmons said. "They were trying to switch out on defense, and when they tried to switch I tried to take them off one side and go off the other side. It worked for me." Brand finished with 17 points and 11 rebounds as Los Angeles (23-23) ran its overall winning streak to three games. "I couldn't be any more prouder of our guys based on being down 20 (actually 18) to this team in the second half and coming back," Clippers coach Mike Dunleavy said. "Obviously, Simmons shot it well, and Marko, they both brought us back." "It was all about execution," Simmons said. "We were patient, and we're capable of getting the ball to guys who can make great plays." The win also snapped the Clippers' seven-game losing streak against the Grizzlies. Los Angeles, which shot 60 percent (37-of-62), had not won in Memphis since February 25, 2002. "Actually, I just mentioned to (teammate) Rick Brunson that I was tired of losing to them," Jaric said. "For me personally, this is a big, big, big victory for us." Mike Miller had 16 and Jason Williams added 15 for the Grizzlies, who had a five-game home winning streak snapped. "One thing you've got to give them credit for is they made shots," Miller said. "Anytime you make shots, you're a lot more difficult to guard. Marko Jaric made a couple tough shots and Simmons made some big shots. You've got to give them credit." Memphis (27-21) led by as many as 18 in the third quarter. "I think the Clippers need to be commended for hanging in there and the way they hung in there to get back in the game," Memphis coach Mike Fratello said. "They had a great performance out of Jaric and Simmons. You've got to credit them for executing and hanging in there facing a pretty large deficit." Neither team led by more than four points in the opening quarter but Memphis opened an 11-point lead just before the half. A 15-foot jumper by Lorenzen Wright pushed the Grizzlies lead to 66-48 3:31 into the third quarter. But Jaric was unreal in the third quarter, making 6-of-7 shots, including all three of his 3-point attempts. The Clippers were within 82-74 heading into the final quarter, setting the stage for Simmons' big fourth quarter. "Marko kept us in it," Dunleavy added. "We got it in the open floor, he made some good plays and we got some open shots." "I always say this team has so much talent, so many good players that can score 20 or more points," Jaric said.
