Game StoryINDIANAPOLIS (Ticker) -- Bob Sura took much of the sentiment out of the start of Reggie Miller's farewell tour. Sura scored 17 points and was among five players in double figures as the Houston Rockets won their season-high sixth straight game, defeating the Indiana Pacers, 91-83. Playing in his first game since announcing he will retire after the season, Miller scored 11 points, including three 3-pointers. That wasn't enough to prevent the Pacers from losing for the eighth time in their last 11 games. "There's no ideal situation that I'm going to leave on," Miller said. "Last year would have been great, getting to the Eastern (Conference) finals. But there's no ideal time. I'm not going to let this year ruin 17 others that have been fantastic. This year can still be special for us." "I think we kind of spoiled the party," Rockets All-Star guard Tracy McGrady said. "There seemed to be a lot of energy in the building tonight ... a packed house. We wish Reggie well in his retirement. But we needed the win." Houston, which has won 10 of its last 12 games, earned a split of the season series after losing at home to Indiana on January 18. "It's a good win on the road ... a big win for us." Sura said. "I think we held them to 13 points in the fourth. So our defense was pretty good down the stretch. Offensively, we're starting to click and I hope we keep it up." Sura scored seven points early in the third quarter to help give the Rockets their biggest lead, 77-62. Indiana went on a 20-5 run capped by a pair of baskets by Anthony Johnson to tie it, 82-82, with 7:03 left. But the Rockets got consecutive buckets from McGrady, Sura and Juwan Howard, along with a pair of critical blocked shots by Dikembe Mutombo, to put away the game. Miller returned with 1:02 left and the Pacers trailing, 88-83, and the crowd roared. But there was none of his late-game magic. "I went right up to him and told him he's not getting a shot," Sura said. "I wasn't going to leave him. He said, 'Not even one?' I told him I'd seen it too many times." "At the end of the game, we wanted to defend Reggie well," Rockets coach Jeff Van Gundy said. "I've seen him do that to me enough." McGrady and All-Star center Yao Ming scored 16 points apiece and Howard added 14 and 12 rebounds for the Rockets, who had a 47-29 edge on the boards. "The fourth quarter looked ugly out there." Yao said. "That's when you see which team is toughest mentally, and who can get it done on defense. There's nothing worse than a loss when it's ugly like that." All Star forward Jermaine O'Neal and Stephen Jackson scored 18 points each for the Pacers, who missed their last 12 shots over the final seven minutes and went 3-of-8 from the foul line in the fourth quarter. "I was 7-of-23 from the floor and had three rebounds tonight," O'Neal said. "I've got to bring it better than that. It (was) like I was just out there running around. We need to have a collective effort to win and tonight and I didn't do my part."
