Game StoryORLANDO, Florida (Ticker) -- Steve Francis and Hedo Turkoglu kept the Orlando Magic from falling victim to another career-best performance. Francis and Turkoglu scored 22 points apiece and combined for the last 15 for the Magic, who escaped with a 97-94 victory over Dan Dickau and the New Orleans Hornets. Owners of the league's worst record at 10-41, the Hornets were seeking their first three-game winning streak of the season and nearly got it behind Dickau, who had career highs of seven 3-pointers and 28 points. "I got my feet under me and I was on balance every time I shot the ball, except the couple of ones I had to rush because of the shot clock," said Dickau, who made four 3-pointers in the final seven minutes of the third period. "I feel whenever I get my feet set under me, I am going to make the jump shot." "Dan had a wonderful game once again. He's being his consistent self," said Hornets veteran, P.J. Brown, who sat out the second half with a ankle sprain. "He's showing everybody he belongs in this league and is an NBA point guard." On Friday, NBA scoring leader Allen Iverson of Philadelphia torched Orlando for a career-high 60 points. But the Magic held on behind Francis and Turkoglu. "We don't prepare for games by saying, 'Let's let this guy get his and stop everyone else," Magic reserve Pat Garrity said. "We're trying to stop the Hornets or Sixers. "That's how we approach games. Earlier in the year, we thought offensively that we could run away from people and we got away from that help concept on defense. I think we're getting back to that now." Orlando seemingly was in control late in the third quarter when Turkoglu's three-point play provided an 81-69. But the Magic then went cold, missing their next 11 shots in a 7:31 span without a basket. New Orleans rallied behind rookie J.R. Smith, who scored four of his 20 points in a 14-1 burst that gave the Hornets an 83-82 edge with 6:32 remaining. After two free throws and a dunk by Turkoglu, Dickau made it 86-86 with his final 3-pointer before Francis countered by sparking a 7-0 rally with a three-point play at the 4:44 mark. Francis helped secure the victory for Orlando, which had lost four of its previous five games, with a reverse layup with 1:03 left and a pair of free throws as Dickau fouled out with 11 seconds to go. Smith had a chance to tie it, but his 3-pointer did not hit the rim. "It would be good to get a blowout victory, of course," Francis said. "Everybody knows that we're struggling right now and that we'll take a win any way we can get it. But we ain't playing good. I mean we're not playing good to a point where everybody's consistently on the same page at all times on the court." "I'm really disappointed at how unintelligent we played in the last five minutes," New Orleans coach Byron Scott said. "We did some very stupid things and that cost us the game, along with 16 turnovers for 29 points. You can't do that against a team like this because they're gonna run it right back down your throats."
