Game StoryORLANDO, Florida (Ticker) -- If it seemed like Grant Hill never missed, it was because he rarely did. Hill scored a season-high 39 points with an impressive shooting display, and Steve Francis drained two key jumpers late as the Orlando Magic posted a 99-94 victory over the Los Angeles Clippers. Hill, an Eastern Conference All-Star starter, was 12-of-16 from the field and 15-of-16 from the line in his highest-scoring game with the Magic. He has missed most of the last four years with an ankle injury but has been healthy and rejuvenated this season. Hill's previous high with Orlando came on November 17, 2004, when he scored 32 points in a home win against Utah. The last time Hill scored 40 was January 8, 2000 when he was with Detroit. "Grant played great, read the floor great, he got the ball to where he could attack," Clippers coach Mike Dunleavy said. "He was in attack mode most of the night. We tried multiple guys guarding him, but we just didn't get the job done." Francis scored 16 points, including six of his team's last eight as the Magic never let the Clippers grab the lead in the fourth quarter. With Orlando nursing a 91-89 edge in the final minute, Francis hit a tough fallaway jumper to double the lead, 93-89. "Grant's performance was unbelievable," said Francis, who combined with Hill to score Orlando's last 16 points. "He did a good job of carrying us when guys were down." The humble Hill talked almost exclusively about the team rather than his performance. "As far as teams defending me differently than when I was in Detroit, it's a little bit easier than when I was there," he said. "I've also got guys around me that make it a little bit easier as well. "The main thing is to continue to get better, I'm trying to get better. As good as things have been this year, I feel like I can get better. It doesn't mean offensively, either. Just try hard and continue to find my rhythm." After Elton Brand made 1-of-2 free throws, Francis hit a jumper over rookie Shaun Livingston for a 95-90 lead with 13 seconds showing. Hill and Francis each converted a pair of free throws in the closing seconds to improve Orlando's home mark to 19-6. "When Grant first arrived here from Detroit, he was one of the top players in the game at the time and in his prime," Magic Coach Johnny Davis said. "To come back and still play at a very high level is a tremendous accomplishment." It was another close road loss for the Clippers, who have dropped six in a row for the first time this season and are 1-6 on a nine-game road swing. Los Angeles began the trip with a win over Memphis before losing its next five by a combined 15 points. "They hit some big shots. In our other games (during the losing streak), it has been lack of execution that really hurt us," Brand said. "It is very difficult emotionally and it wears on you, but we will get out of this funk." Brand scored 21 points and Bobby Simmons added 20 for the Clippers.
