Game Story

CLEVELAND (Ticker) -- The Chicago Bulls looked lost trying to defend All-Stars Zydrunas Ilgauskas and LeBron James in the second half. Ilgauskas scored 26 of his 33 points and James 15 of his 27 after the break as the Cleveland Cavaliers snapped the Bulls' four-game winning streak, 100-91. "Both of them pretty much toyed with us all night," Chicago coach Scott Skiles said. "You kind of expect it out of LeBron," Cleveland coach Paul Silas said. "But if (Ilgauskas) continues to do this the second half of this year, then we have a good chance to do something really special." Chicago, which rallied for a 105-101 overtime triumph vs. Miami on Tuesday, trailed by as many as 19 points late in the third quarter and 73-62 entering the fourth period. But behind rookie Ben Gordon, who scored seven points early in the final period, the Bulls climbed within 77-72 on a dunk by Eddy Curry with 9:11 remaining. Ilgauskas countered with a running hook to trigger an 13-3 run, which he ended with a pair of free throws with 5:51 remaining. James had seven points and Ilgauskas the other six during the burst. "(Ilgauskas) was in there being physical with their 7-footers," Cavaliers forward Drew Gooden said. "Z did some great work in there tonight, attacking the armpits." "We're the two All-Stars on this team," James said. "And we're All-Stars for a reason. We showed why tonight." James added 11 assists and six rebounds for Cleveland, which shot just 36 percent (16-of-44) in the first half but took a 43-37 lead into intermission after holding Chicago to 28 percent (11-of-39). "We came out a little sluggish and they got some easy hoops on us, which is expected after the (All-Star) break," Ilgauskas said. "Then we tightened up, and they were driving to the basket and we were able to contain them." Silas is concerned that James played straight through the All-Star break, in both the Rookie Challenge and the All-Star Game, then had to play 44 minutes against the Bulls. "I have to find a way to rest him as much as possible," Silas said. The Cavaliers improved to 2-1 vs. the Bulls this season, with the home team winning all three matchups. "I think (Cleveland-Chicago) can become a rivalry," James said. "It's two young teams up and coming." Gordon scored 13 of his 21 points in the fourth quarter for the Bulls. He leads the league with 16 games of at least 10 points in the final period. "Coming out of the break, we've got some cement shoes that we're walking around in and we've got to shake it off," Skiles said. "We're way too slow right now." Kirk Hinrich scored 13 points and Curry and Tyson Chandler chipped in 12 apiece for Chicago. "We're looking for some type of spark from anywhere on offense and defense, and every time we seemed to make a run, they'd somehow get a basket," Curry said.
