Game Story

NEW YORK (Ticker) -- Tim Thomas, Kurt Thomas and Scott Foster spoiled Allen Iverson's good mood. Tim and Kurt Thomas combined to score 25 of their 48 points in the fourth quarter and the New York Knicks continued their hold over the Philadelphia 76ers with a 113-101 victory. The NBA scoring leader at nearly 30 points per game, Iverson was overjoyed Wednesday night when he found out the 76ers had acquired star forward Chris Webber, whom he described as the best player he has had as a teammate. Iverson was still in a good mood Thursday night as the Sixers opened a 65-55 lead in the third quarter. But the Knicks took the lead with an 11-0 spurt during which Iverson felt he was fouled. As Philadelphia called timeout with 6:40 left in the period, Iverson threw a hard one-bouncer to Foster, a referee who immediately hit the superstar with a technical foul. "I was coming down the court and that's the referee we always throw the ball to when we called timeout," Iverson said. "I guess he didn't like the way I threw the ball." Iverson, who had 29 points and eight assists, responded with a jumper and 3-pointer that briefly restored Philadelphia's lead but had no answer for the Thomases in the fourth quarter. Kurt Thomas scored 12 of his 21 points in the final period, sinking six shots without a miss. He had a pair of hoops in an 8-0 run that opened the quarter, three straight jumpers to extend the lead to 95-86 and another jumper that made it 107-93 with three minutes to go. "We did a great job," Kurt Thomas said. "Guys were making shots and that made it so much easier." "He's going to knock down open jump shots," Knicks interim coach Herb Williams said. "You're going to get that from him every night." Tim Thomas scored 13 of his season-high 27 points in the final six minutes. He had a jumper and two 3-pointers to push the advantage to 105-91 with 3:24 left before tacking on five points in the closing minutes. "We just had shooters all over the court and just forced them to guard somebody," Tim Thomas said. Midway through the fourth quarter, the Sixers called timeout and Iverson ran up to Foster as if to hand him the ball, then turned and handed it to referee Jack Nies. Kurt Thomas made 10-of-11 shots and grabbed 12 rebounds. Tim Thomas sank 10-of-14 shots, including three 3-pointers. Together, they helped the Knicks shoot 52 percent (42-of-81). "We did not defend," Sixers coach Jim O'Brien said. "I think we challenged three shots in the fourth quarter." Stephon Marbury had 17 points and 12 assists and Jamal Crawford scored 16 points for the Knicks, who bounced back from a last-second loss at Philadelphia 10 days ago to defeat the Sixers for the eighth time in 10 meetings. The Knicks made a pair of trades of their own, acquiring forwards Maurice Taylor and Malik Rose while dealing away Nazr Mohammed, which moved Kurt Thomas to center. "I played center a couple of years ago, but my true position is power forward," he said. "I just got out there and continue to play hard." Marc Jackson scored 18 points and Samuel Dalembert added 14 and 15 rebounds for the Sixers, who fell one-half game behind first-place Boston in the weak Atlantic Division. "We have to put this one behind us and understand that they outplayed us," Iverson said. "Just because this trade is made and there is a good feeling surrounding this organization, we still have to get it done."
