Game Story

EAST RUTHERFORD, New Jersey (Ticker) -- A well-rested Nenad Krstic made the most of his limited minutes for the New Jersey Nets. Krstic scored a season-high 25 points in 28 minutes before fouling out as the Nets ended their two-game losing streak with a 93-86 victory over the Charlotte Bobcats. A 21-year-old rookie from Serbia & Montenegro, Krstic saw his first action in nine days after missing the last two games with bronchitis. He set a season high for the second consecutive contest. "We definitely missed his big body and what he brings," Nets guard Jason Kidd said. "He (has) come a long way. He hit the rookie wall. Now he's coming off the wall and learning the NBA game. If he plays like this, we have a chance." After Jason Kapono made a 3-pointer bring the Bobcats within 67-66 early in the fourth quarter, Krstic scored seven points during a 9-0 run to make it 76-66 before collecting his fifth foul. "When the game started, I didn't think about how I'm tired because I'm sick," Krstic said. "So I told myself, 'I'm just going to go out and play.' In the first half, I felt good. After that, I just started to cough and get tired. In the third quarter, I told coach I needed a substitute because I was so tired." Krstic outplayed the struggling Emeka Okafor, a leading candidate for Rookie of the Year. Okafor grabbed 12 rebounds but managed only six points on 3-of-10 shooting as the Bobcats lost for the 26th time in 30 games. "He's a big guy and knows how to use his body," Okafor said. "I just have to find my flow and get my mojo back." Carter scored 28 points and Kidd nearly posted another triple-double with 11 points, nine assists and eight rebounds for the Nets, who had lost five of their previous seven games. "We needed this win in a big, bad way, whatever way you want to say it," Kidd said. Gerald Wallace had 23 points, Primoz Brezec added 14 and Brevin Knight collected 10 and 12 assists as the Bobcats fell to 2-24 on the road this season. The Nets never trailed after the opening minutes and jumped out to an early 14-point lead behind Carter, who scored 13 points in the first period. Krstic added 10 points in the second, helping New Jersey to a 55-42 halftime cushion. "(Krstic) was phenomenal tonight," Carter said. "It's a miracle what rest will do for you. He just played great. It's important for him to be who he is, which is a big guy that can score. It just shows his emergence."
