Game Story

OAKLAND, California (Ticker) -- Tayshaun Prince's efforts on both ends of the floor helped the Detroit Pistons remain on a roll. Prince scored 23 points and forced a turnover in the waning seconds as the Pistons posted their season-high seventh consecutive victory, a 94-88 triumph over the Golden State Warriors. With Detroit leading, 91-88, Golden State's Jason Richardson drove the right baseline but before he could get a shot off, Prince got his hands on the ball. Chauncey Billups came up with the loose ball with 14 seconds left. "Obviously, I'm playing him for the 3-point shot," Prince said. "He kind of had me off the dribble and I just recovered in enough time to make him pick it up. I lost my balance and swiped down and knocked the ball out of his hands." "I could have taken a three but there's plenty of time where you can get a two and a quick foul," Richardson said. "I went to the hole and I just lost the ball. I've got to do a better job of controlling the ball, especially in those type of end of the game situations." After taking their first lead late in the first half, the Pistons built a 78-66 advantage in the third quarter, behind 12 points from Prince, who made 4-of-5 shots in the period. The Warriors rallied behind Richardson, who scored 11 of his 25 points in the fourth quarter. "I did my part helping this team get back," Richardson said. "I tried to get the ball in (newly-acquired point guard Baron Davis') hands for him to make the decisions, that's what we traded for him for." "We had a stretch in the fourth where we missed some shots," Prince said. "They off to a good run to start the fourth but that's our type of game with two minutes left and a two or three point game." Playing his first game in a Golden State uniform, Davis connected on a pair of free throws with 3:11 left to shave the deficit to 87-85. Davis collected 10 points and eight assists and Derek Fisher added 19 points, including a 3-pointer that made the score 90-88 with 22 seconds to go. "It felt great," said Davis, who has been hampered by injuries to his right ankle and back injury. "It's tough to play when you're injured but at the same time, it's good to be in a great environment, a great basketball atmosphere. It was pure adrenaline tonight." "Well, we lost the game but I think you got a glimpse of what Baron can do," Golden State coach Mike Montgomery said. "I think he finds people. There obviously wasn't much structure out there, we only had one practice. You're going to see, probably by necessity, a little more of an open-court game. I think that fits some of the guys pretty well." Davis did not start the game and came off the bench with 5:11 remaining in the first quarter to a standing ovation. "There was a bit of a different buzz compared to normal," Fisher said. "We've gotten great support all season long from our fans and they've been patient with us. But you could tell tonight that they were excited to see a guy like Baron come in and help us these last 27-28 games of the year." Rasheed Wallace collected 17 points and nine rebounds and Billups added 16 points and nine assists for the Pistons, who improved to 2-0 on their current six-game road trip. "The thing we wanted to do was make sure we played the same way after the break as we did before the break," Prince said. "We were able to do that and we started the West Coast trip off right in L.A. We came here and got a win so the most important thing now is get this day off tomorrow and be ready for Portland."
