Game StoryORLANDO, Florida (Ticker) -- After looking so good in their previous three contests, the New York Knicks returned to form at the site of one of their best games of the season. Grant Hill scored 29 points and rookie Dwight Howard collected 20 and 15 rebounds as the Orlando Magic took advantage of the Knicks' porous defense to post a 111-89 victory. New York, which posted a 119-111 victory here on December 27, entered with a season-high three-game winning streak but its defense continually let the Magic get to the basket in this one. "They were much sharper that we were, cutting harder," interim Knicks coach Herb Williams said. "They were attacking the basket ... What we have to do, our perimeter players got to keep people in front of them." "They just kept getting layup after layup and pushing the ball right at us," Knicks guard Jamal Crawford said. "We didn't really set our defense. To win three in a row and then come out and play like we did is very disappointing." Orlando came out strong in the first quarter, making 10 of its 13 shots en route to a 38-25 advantage after one period. It was the most points surrendered by New York in the opening quarter all season. Howard and Hill led the Magic offense with 12 and 11 points, respectively. "Dwight seems to be growing stronger as we move forward each game," Magic coach Johnny Davis said. "He's really learned some of the nuances of playing the position and he's learned it quickly." "We just came out flat," said Knicks center-forward Kurt Thomas, who finished with 10 points and nine rebounds. "They got off to a great start ... 38 points in the first quarter. We didn't play any defense." Making 51 percent (42-of-82) of their shots, the Magic led by as many as 17 in the second quarter but New York guard Stephon Marbury scored six of his 22 points in a 12-4 burst that cut the deficit to 58-52 with 26 seconds left in the half. But Thomas fouled Howard on a jumper as the shot clock was expiring and the rookie made his two free throws. Then fellow rookie Jameer Nelson, starting his fifth straight game since the All-Star break, forced a jump ball with just over a second remaining. The tapped ball fell into the waiting hands of Hedo Turkoglu, who drilled a 3-pointer as time expired to extend the advantage to 63-52. "I don't think I'm playing with a lot more confidence, I'm just getting a lot more playing time," said Nelson, who finished with 11 points and seven assists. The Magic, who matched their largest margin of victory this season, had the offense running on all cylinders with Nelson at point guard and Steve Francis moving to shooting guard. Francis finished 13 points and nine assists with only two turnovers. "With Steve out there with Jameer, we actually have the luxury if having two guys that can penetrate and dish, and that makes it easier for guys to get shots," Davis said. "When he drives and kicks, he's also kicking to Grant Hill and Jameer and Hedo." The Knicks, who fell to 7-22 on the road this season and lost for the 13th time in their last 14 games away from home, never came within single digits in the second half. New York forward Tim Thomas - who was coming off a season-high 35-point performance - hyperextend his knee in the third quarter. He returned briefly but finished with only five points in 20 minutes.
