Game StorySAN ANTONIO (Ticker) -- Tim Duncan should have taken another night off. Duncan returned after missing two games with a sprained right ankle as the San Antonio Spurs rolled to a 112-89 rout of the New Orleans Hornets. While the Spurs had to be happy with the sight of their best player back on the court, they played without guards Manu Ginobili and Tony Parker due to injuries. But facing the Western Conference's worst team, it hardly mattered. The Spurs never trailed, opened a 13-point lead less than six minutes into the contest and led by as many as 40 points in the third quarter. "It was a good night for moving the basketball, I thought the guys moved the ball real well, found the open man, shot it pretty good, played pretty good 'D', and had a lot of guys play well," San Antonio coach Gregg Popovich said. "We took advantage of the fact that New Orleans has a lot of injury problems. That makes it real tough on them. But you still have to play the game, and I thought we played it pretty well." Rookie Beno Udrih scored 17 of his season-high 25 points in the second half to pace the Spurs. He made 9-of-13 shots. "I feel good, it was a great honor and I played as hard as I could," said Udrih, who started his first game of the season. "I just let the game come to me tonight. Now I know I can play more minutes and come in and play when someone is hurt. It is a great confidence builder. We had 29 assists tonight, so it was great team defense and offense." "Our guys were great," Duncan said. "Beno (Udrih) took open shots and made them. Brent (Barry) also did a really good job of taking the shot when it was there and knocking it down. It is great for these guys to get some time while Manu (Ginobili) and Tony (Parker) are out." Udrih also had four assists while playing 32 minutes. "Beno did a good job of just letting the game come to him, he didn't force anything," Popovich said. "He moved the ball really well. When he had shots he didn't hesitate, he just took them. He didn't worry about whether they were going in or not." Duncan played the first three quarters and had 18 points and 13 rebounds in 26 minutes. "I felt really good tonight," said Duncan. "You know what, it's great to get back on the winning track. We played well tonight. Our whole team moved the ball very well tonight. We are starting to get our rhythm back." Bruce Bowen added 18 points and Brent Barry 17 for the Spurs, who improved to 29-3 at home. They were coming off Saturday's 90-87 home loss to Denver. "It was a game we wanted to win especially after two tough losses," Barry said. "We had a couple of guys out, but Tim was back and Beno stepped up. It's important that all of us step up to fill in." San Antonio shot 55 percent (41-of-75) and held a 45-37 rebounding advantage. Jackson Vroman scored 17 points to pace six players in double figures for the Hornets, who lost all four of the meetings against the Spurs this season by double digits. "We knew they were going to come out ready to play," New Orleans coach Byron Scott said. "Tim Duncan was back in the lineup so we knew that they were going to be ready to play a very physical and aggressive basketball game, and they started right from the get go." New Orleans fell to 3-28 on the road. "We definitely didn't bring our 'A' game," New Orleans forward P.J. Brown said. "Before the game, we thought that it was going to be a good one, but it got real bad early. We didn't play well. We didn't compete. When you play a team of this caliber, you have to meet them. They are a physical team and we didn't bring it tonight."
