Game Story

SACRAMENTO, California (Ticker) -- The Sacramento Kings may look different since the beginning of the season, but they still have Mike Bibby and his fourth-quarter heroics. Bibby scored 15 of his 21 points in the fourth quarter to lead the Kings to a 105-94 victory over the reeling Orlando Magic. After dealing Chris Webber at the trade deadline, Sacramento also is without another former All-Star in center Brad Miller, who broke his leg in practice Saturday and will miss the next four to six weeks. "It was a good win," Sacramento coach Rick Adelman said. "We did enough things to get the win, and that's what we've got to keep doing. We are trying to adjust and find out what is going to work with the guys we have now." After the Magic trimmed an 18-point third-quarter deficit to 79-74 with 10:54 to go on a jumper by former King Hedo Turkoglu, Bibby singlehandedly led an 11-4 burst by Sacramento with three 3-pointers and a pair of free throws as the Kings established a 90-78 advantage with 8:19 left and never were threatened thereafter. Sacramento finished its homestand at 4-1, including wins over Memphis and the Los Angeles Clippers in which Bibby hit game-winning shots as time expired. "Mike is really leading this team in the right direction," said Sacramento's Peja Stojakovic, who hit 11-of-18 from the floor. "There have been a couple games where the whole team struggled and he took the team on his shoulders. He's just having a great season." Bibby, who handed out 10 assists, had the Sacramento offense running on all cylinders as the Kings led, 65-47, with just over nine minutes left in the third period. Stojakovic was the biggest beneficiary, scoring 24 of his 27 points in the first three quarters. "I've been struggling with my shot the last few games," Stojakovic said. "Finally, I've got my conditioning back after being out with a bad hamstring. I'm getting better each and every game and, as a team, we're getting better. We've got 17 games to see what we can do before the playoffs." Brian Skinner, who came over in the deal involving Webber, helped the Kings to an early lead, scoring eight points and blocking two shots in the first quarter. After languishing on the bench in Philadelphia, Skinner has found success in his role with Sacramento. "I fit here," said Skinner, who had 13 points and 11 rebounds. "I'm going to bring in a little more interior presence, block shots and go after every rebound. I don't need to score 20 points. If they need me to score, I'll score more. But we've got scorers on this ballclub." Steve Francis and Grant Hill led Orlando's rally in the third, combining for 15 of the team's 24 points in the quarter while taking advantage of nine turnovers by the Kings. "We really didn't get in the game until the second half, and with a good team like Sacramento, you can't go down like that and try to crawl your way back," Orlando coach Johnny Davis said. Francis scored 25 points and Hill added 24 for the Magic, who lost their season-high fifth game in a row. Sacramento tied a season-high with 13 steals as Orlando (31-32) committed a season-high 25 turnovers, which helped seal its fate in the first game of a five-game road trip. "Turnovers killed us in too many crucial situations," Francis said. "We're definitely below .500 for the first time, but I see potential there." After burning the Kings for 20 points and 16 rebounds in Orlando on March 2, rookie forward Dwight Howard was held to just four points - all from the line - and five rebounds. Magic center Kelvin Cato also went without a basket (0-for-7), scoring just four points. "They rebound real well," said Kings forward Kenny Thomas, who collected 16 points, 11 rebounds and a season-high seven assists. "We had to keep them off the boards. We did that tonight, and for (Howard) and Cato not to have a bucket, that's great."
